Anyone tried one of these?

I got caught out the other week, assuming that with 127k on the clock, and more than 13 years since build date, both front hubs would've previously been 'unbonded' from the outer CV splines. The other side I knew had been, as I'd changed a CV boot with no trouble. This time, I had to go the much more awkward way with a spring/strut replacement (on the Polo), rather than taking off the whole thing including wheel bearing housing. PITA.

So I gambled £14 on an ebay cheapie, above, and I'm surprised how solid it feels/looks.

Anyone used one of these successfully?

Yeah I've used them quite a few times, usually with a knocking stick also at the same time.

Normally wind it on a few threads to put weight on it then give the object a few hits.

They are great for stuck rear drums also!

Bergan kit is generally decent. Personally I just drift them out with an old half inch extension bar, but I can see the appeal of a tool like that.

Used a similar one of these to free drive shafts and rear drums, you know they are stuck when you have to wind them in with the impact, then unleash the 7lb sledge on the end of it! Mine is a machine mart brand, but looks identical. Good tool for the tool box :)
