Faulty fuel injector but no dash light warning

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had a faulty fuel injector on the 2.0tsi engine? Does anyone know why my dash light didn't come on? This has lead to stripping the parts down to diagnose the fault. Is this normal?

Cheers,

Gaz

Did you get any fault codes when scanned with VCDS?

How did you know there was an issue?

When I had an issue with number 2 injector engine warning light came on and Epc light. Turns out injector was seized open over fuelling..

Not sure what it was scanned with but there were no fault codes. I had it scanned by 2 different garages. My car would cut out and run rough. Rev counter bouncing up and down. There was also a strong smell of fuel. Number 4 injector was stuck open

I'd probably have thought the EM would produce an emission related dtc code given the over fueling at least. But it seems not always in your case.

Thing is there are lots of different code readers out there on the market and used in different garages.

VCDS really is the best for VAG specific fault code reading. Its not infallible though, it does definitely sound strange that a fault code wasn't logged.

Thanks for replying guys! Sorry I'm very slow on this lol.......so anyway I have now had that injector replaced. Picked up the car last week again and this morning BOOM another fault....bloody cars! My engine management light did come on this time. So did the EPC light. It was misfiring again and smelt of fuel again. There was a lot of white coming out of the exhaust. Petrol was dissappearing much quicker than normal. Had it scanned......but by the time I got to the garage the car was running fine again! The scan faults were along the lines of.......misfire in 2 cylinders, low fuel pressure. Codes were wiped because symptons dissappeared. The exhaust fumes smelt a bit weird too.....not normal anyway. Annoying lol

Not the best of luck. A new problem or part of the old one....... sounds related maybe more than one item was on its way out.  Was the white smoke condensation or did it smell different?  It is cold at moment, I get a lot of condensation at idle when waiting at traffic lights and so on.

If you get the exact codes especially with vcds you can cross reference with the Ross Tech code trouble shooter and listed remedies. It often helps, but the suggested fault is not always the actual or only fault involved due to interdependencies and one fault can cause another related component or system to be out of spec and report problems.

Low fuel pressure - the only things that come to my mind without randomly searching are blocked fuel filter, perished or pinched hoses or failing fuel pump. But I haven't experienced a fault like yours.
