Hello to BRISKODA members from a Skoda newbie.

 

I will pick up a red 66-reg Sportline on Monday that used to be the sales manager's car. So, not officially new, but certainly the newest I've ever owned! I am trading in my beloved 2008 Alfa Romeo Brera. I bought it based on its appearance alone, and never regretted the purchase. It gave me three years of trouble-free driving. And, it's a head-turner. However, the roads in south London finally convinced my 69-year-old body that a more compliant suspension was in order. And, while I was at it, rear seats that people could actually sit on, and with room for luggage for five. Reluctant to leave the Alfa brand, I test drove a new Giulia. Lovely car, but two things put me off: you're not gonna get luggage for four people on holiday in there and the stop/start implementation is really crude. ("Yeah, but you can switch it off," she said.)

 

One of the things I liked about the Brera was that you don't see one parked on every corner, so I started getting interested in Skoda. And after reading glowing reviews, a test drive convinced me. (I'm glad I spent hours lurking on this site, so I was aware of the traction control noise!) 

 

I'll have questions for sure, but I'll try not to be a pest.

I put a deposit down on a Brera as it was just in, and I fell for it... serves me right for stopping on my lunch :D

 

They are a lovely car, even today knock spots of many... Sadly mine was to be a 2.4 5cyl diesel. Although I test drove it as a 4cyl version and the dealer seemed to think it was normal for it to do that from time to time...  :peek:  run away.... i stuck with skoda ;)

 

The Sportline, well any new car is a step up in technology and what not... few companies even the megacar ones seem to capture that Alfa pulse though. I still get hairs standing when I see the giulia ad... 

 

I suppose I'd better say, the superb sportline is better :angel:  in some ways

It's said that you're not a true petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa. When they get the petrol Giulia sorted and bring the Veloce to the UK, I might give it another look. But I'm rather hoping that this Sportline will convince me over the next two or three years. It's a nice looking car and scoots right along in sport mode with the paddles.

That is pretty near the top of the list :D

Last year a member, Xavier jumped to a tesla; addictive, at a meeting he did as much mind altering on the future as many a tv motoring show. The Alfa is more obtainable mind you.

Welcome freelunch , cracking car that Brera , yes beautiful car but so many were diesels, ( I hate diesels ) and at least your Superb is a tsi too :happy:

Heck, you guys are making me thing I've made a mistake! Except I only put 3,000 miles on the Brera last year. It would be foolish to try to run two cars, especially as I have to park on the street.
