Had a search and this type of question has been asked before , however , the octy will need New Front tyres in next 4 weeks . Intend putting on Verdistan Sportac 2 with Rim protection , they had a good write up in Auto express trials last year , good price

My preference for tyres is:

Mitch Pilot Exalto if you want grip or premacy if you want a bit less grip and a bit longer life.

Avoid the MXM tyre as it is awful on my TDI

Heard some good things about the verdistans but not on the Octavia, but not heard anything good or bad on tyre life as yet.

I normally go by 'Evo' or 'Auto Express' magazine tyre test. I use Goodyear Eagle F1's I think they are very good. No that cheap but the tyre you choose will account for a lot if its not up to the job.
