New vrs tsi owner

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm new to skoda. Saw a 2010 Octavia vrs tsi estate in red and had to have it. Drove it, loved it!

I've heard and read a lot on the timing chain issues, but was there a recall for this etc? Any other common issues? Any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance

No recall for the timing chain tensioner issue I am afraid. You don't think VW would admit there is a problem and pay out millions on a recall, do you. Had new chains and tensioner fitted to mine last year, just in case it all goes wrong! Mind you,  when you love the car so much, it's not quite so bad paying out the money for piece of mind. Another common issue is the inlet manifold. Mine went 2 weeks into ownership, but at least that £500 bill was covered by warranty.

Nice car they look great in Red.

I recently picked up a 59 plate VRS DSG with only 30k on the clock. After a few days of ownership I did notice a slight rattle on start up. I spoke to the garage I brought it from, and they agreed to fit a new timing chain and tensioner. I pick the car up tomorrow. I can now finally enjoy me car.

It might be worth you speaking the garage you brought it from, assuming you didn’t buy it privately. They may be willing to change the tensioner and chain?

Regards

Marc

Get the chain and tensioner replaced asap for piece of mind

Cheers, folks! Haha, nahhh I wouldn't imagine vw admitting a massive fault with one of their products to be fair.

I know the manifold has been sorted, but not sure on the chain and tensioners. Fetching it tomorrow, so will ask. It's a garage but the dealer is a genuinely nice bloke, not like most garage owners, so he'll be honest and helpful I don't doubt.

So other than the above its a pretty solid car?

From what I saw everything inside is pretty much vag standard so I'll know my way around pretty well.

Was thinking after a while of getting it remapped, what's a safe amount to push it to with standard parts? Don't wanna be faffing with filters and exhausts. Want it to look completely standard.

Cheers in advance

James.

That's criminal!

Welcome to the gang. That is a pretty toy

I've found my Skoda dealer to be much more competitive on price. Are you sure the local place was using genuine Skoda parts?

My car had been worked on by a number of local places (no Skoda stamps in the book, other than the original delivery one.) There was a strange front to back judder when it was idling. I asked the main dealer to give it a thorough service and they found that "Barry the Backstreet" had taken the stretch bolts out that hold the engine in and put the ones he took out back rather than using a new set as you're supposed to. The engine was loose and the juddering was it moving on its mounts. That cost me rather more to get fixed than the £12 he saved by not using new bolts.
