Rear wiper water

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Where is the most likely place that would prevent the water form getting to the rear window? I can hear the motor going but nothing comes out...

Many thanks

There's a Y piece in the pipe at the front under the bonnet clipped against the back of the body in the engine compartment.

on a dry day get a mate to work the back washer - see if you can see any water dripping in the front right side.

if there is - just push it back till it clicks.

if not it's a case of checking the tailgate.

is the tailgate bit hard to do?

Not hard to do but it's fiddly. The plastic cover,

its held on by around 12 'v 'shaped metal spring clips which are a bit tricky to line back up to re fit - and you'll forget to thread the boot pulled down!

Before i I tried that I would check that there is no crap in the nozzle by pulling it off and

Getting the pipe over a cup or dish and getting someone to operate it. If water runs freely out it's the nozzle...

soaking it in some water or vinegar if you're in a hard water area then having a gentle poke round with a pin. Sometimes this clears them. Try this before you take the plastic tailgate cover off.

Update - Had a really QUICK look under the bonnet, there was an elbow joint which had come apart.. Presto (or so I thought)

We are still accumulating lots of water under the engine bay near the back on the floor passengers side (On the road. not inside)

Where is this Y piece please? I cannot find it anywhere. I suspect thats the issue!

It's behind the ABS pump on the lower right side of the bulkhead as you look at it (you have another thread about this, I told you the same thing in there).

It can keep popping off

can't remember if I swapped or glued my y piece in the end or trimmed a few mm off the end of the pipe to re fit.

It's just a straight joint there isn't it, not a Y?

there's a mention SOMEWHERE on here quoting Skoda that one of the reasons that pipes pop off joining pieces is that the liquid in the wash bottle has too high an SG, as it is most possibly water or heavily diluted screenwash. The article on here/ Skoda report advises that the washer mix should be no less than 50/50, otherwise the liquid is too dense and pipes will pop. My car had a very impressive looking check list from the second hand dealer's agent, but the rear washer did not work. But the wash bottle was full -OF NEAT WATER, and the pipe was off under the bonnet. That was at 14k. 80K later, I've never had another pipe pop off , but then I use 50/50 wash/water or 100 % wash.

i do seem to remember a Skoda "fix" ,being a clip/securing wire on joints, but beware as pipes popping off iwhen pipes are frozen is a design feature to save the wash motor .

Well I don't drink at all but I am a quiet bloke, so you're half right. Cheers :)

You must be one of the few. Many's a good night we had in the Dockers Club  ,and last year, we had a trip back up north ,and a good few nights out with Swimbo's sister's kids.
