Turbo chatter/flutter

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a bit of advice on the turbo chatter my car has developed.

The car is a bwa, tfsi vrs 110k. It has started to flutter/chatter on lift off after I drive at light sustained throttle, started doing it in 1st but it did it in 4th tonight and was pretty loud. It has done it once or twice randomly in the past but it's started to get more frequent in the last few days.

There are no codes and the diverter valve is a roughly 6 months old rev G.

I've recently fitted a fmic and hpfp internals however it did make the noise before these mods.

Has anyone else had this issue? The only thing I can think of is a failing D.V or possibly turbo.

Have you checked the pipework to the DV for any leaks. Could be the valve that controls it that is on its way out also.

Mines always done this but I've never noticed it as an issue in the year I've owned it.

I'm just s bit concerned as it's never really done it before or at least not as often.

Car will be going for stage 2+ map in coming months so would hate to get down to r-tech and have some issue stop it getting mapped.

I believe is the turbine and regarding it mostly apparent the wastegate actuator which controls the extra air incoming the turbine in cases of pressing down our harder accelerates..

Yes I would be a bit concerned as well. If the diverter valve isn't operating as it should it won't be doing the turbo much good.

To help in the short term, try not to let off the throttle suddenly with the turbo loaded up. The closing of the throttle under high boost pressures causes the compressor to surge or stall and that may be the noise your hearing.
