Listened to a vid on youtube and the sound is identical. thanks for the pointer.

Guessing it would be a pricey jop in the garage?

Or could it be a DIY job, baring in mind i have no engine hoist or even an indoor shed/garage

Will have a search on the forum aswel

thanks again

Yes its a pricy job and not a particularly easy one without all of the garage kit, lift etc. As its the 1.9 a switch to a single mass flywheel is the way to go, you'll find plenty of info on this on Briskoda and a good indy garage with VAG knowledge should be able to sort you out at a realistic price.

At that age I would look for loose heat shields around the exhaust and turbo before jumping on the flywheel being at fault. It could be the flywheel but if you're just getting a noise and no judder at biting point. If you get your hand on top of the gearbox next to the engine and have someone operated the clutch with the engine running you will feel the flywheel chatter if it's on it's way out.

Will have a look and try rule anything else out. just ran the engine for a few mins outside and really sounds like its coming from the gearbox and soon as you press the clutch in in stops.

always smart to rule out the cheaper options first tho. thanks
