There are already 2 such schemes in the UK which have been in operation for many years - at Cruachan (Pass of Brander) in Scotland and Dinorwig in Wales.

Yes and they do their job and have done for a long time as do the other Hydro Schemes.

The new ones that are needed are needed obviously as is the Interconnector to Norway so they can do the Hydro Storage as well.

... and the proposed upgraded Interconnector to France (between Lovedean and Le Havre) so we can buy more of their nuclear generated power?

The UK buys from France & Ireland because that is the contracts signed while Electricity generated on the British Mainland & Offshore is not being utilised.
