How to remove the variable floor? (Estate model)

Featured Replies

My first post, so here we go =)

I have the variable floor on my car, but to maximize the trunk space for surfboards, I would really prefer to remove the floor completely.

Is there any way to do it, please?

Thanks very much in advance!

Yes it just unclips at the seat end.

Thanks, but to my eye it doesn't =/ I might be blind as well... How do you unclip it because the rod ends just seems to stay in their slots (the the half moon grooves in the bottom of the sides of the trunk?

I think (from memory) you lift the front (end nearest bumper) and slide it forwards, should just disengage.

There are two flick out plastic supports on each side, I guess If you push these in then the variable floor will lie on the normal floor meaning you don't have to leave it at home.

I can confirm if you like once the rain stops,

thanks ukgnome, here it's been way below freezing temps so haven't had the chance to check it out =/ Though no surfing conditions so haven't been inb such a hurry with this feature either. But in a two months time, it would be great to remove the floor to make a bit more room for the boards and other stuff.

Thanks, I appreciate if you are able to check if it releases like you wrote.

My apologies, now the rain has stopped I have had a good look at the variable boor floor.

I cannot remove it easily, BUT, if you pull the floor forward using the 'handle near the bumper' pull it forward by a few inches, then fold it back on itself, you can push in the plastic spring out panel (one on each side) and the floor will lower.

Unfold and push back and it drops onto the proper floor and at the back by the seats there is a little slope to make it look pretty.

When the rain stops again I will have a look to see if it can be removed totally.

Of course, now I have taken a close look, I need to get the hoover out, which will lead to the polish, which will lead to the ........

My weekend is now looking busy

The photos went in backwards, so start at the bottom for the correct order but from the top they are

Floor in lowered position

Floor being lowered, note the plastic spring out bits on each side where the wheel arch ends.

Folded back on itself, these spring out pits are most noticeable here

Floor in the raised position

The pivot system that allows it to rotate up and down.

You definitely need to get the Hoover out:biggrin:

Strangely enough, I got the hoover out a few minutes after taking the photos. Also the leather cleaner, plastic cleaner, window cleaner and then found anything I picked up afterwards slipped out of my fingers.

Good for you =)

So to the conclusion, is this floor removable after all?

yes it is, have removed mine several times, there are some clips underneath at the front, it's fiddly and I guess not really meant to be done but you can do it.

Thanks Phil, any chance you could take a picture of these clips to see their location etc., please?

Thank you!

Fold the rear seats down and then with the floor in the up postion fold it fowards on it's self until you reveal the three clips as shown in the photo, turn these to one side and then you can remove the whole floor, the thin metal rod will remain but this will just lay flat on the floor and will not be in your way.

I sometimes need to maximise the load capacity and the extra couple of centimetres can be a make or break when loading.

Thanks very much! Now I got it.

Fantastic !  Thanks guys

Had a nasty spill in the back and the car smelt really bad. Now I can clean and de-odourise the floor at my leisure, without driving around in a car that smells like rotten chicken soup !
