Help...Rear brakes on Octy TDi

Featured Replies

Anyone have any useful tips on replacing the rear pads on an Octy TDi ?:)

I have a piston winding tool (Laser 1314) that should fit it

When replacing the pads is it a case (like on Pugs) of simply undoing the lid on the master cylinder and using the tool to wind back the piston in the caliper? or do you need to undo any bleed screws?

I'll be interested in the answers to this

What is a piston winding tool? on my pug 306 I just used a screwdriver with a square shaft, rather than the more traditonal round shaft.

I need to pop my rear wheels off at some point soon - my rear nearside brake does not seem to work too well - disk looks grooved and always rusty (even after a drive)

I used the old screw driver trick on my pug but on the octy the inside edges of the cut outs are not very deep and the screwdriver slipped a lot. (Octy piston is quite a stiff one to turn) I got the winding tool for £19.95 from my second choice of local motor factors (my first usual port of call was met by a response of "We don't have 'em mate, they cost a fortune, you're looking at about £75"...not good news when you already have your caliper in bits !! I suppose you could use the spanner of an angle grinder if you have one..

Arh... I am sure I can find something to fit in there... if not I will ensure that I am back at my parents... my father has a skill for fabricating any implement that he does not own and needs for the current task in hand....
