Saggy bottom

Featured Replies

My 2015 Superb estate has started catching on speed humps (the ones with a hump per lane, not the ones that go side to across the road), not once, but on several occasions, so much so that I now have to put a wheel up on 1 hump to give extra clearance

Is this a known problem? its done 55K miles

This isnt a load problem, it occurs with just schoolkids in

Double humps if you like, normally just tarmac

Ive looked at the underpan and it seems to be undamaged, not drooping

Hi there! Mine grounds out regularly when towing even if the nose weight is sensible and I need to remove the detachable tow bar to be safe on speed bumps when unloaded, but I don't have your problem with a 2010 equivalent at well over 100k!

Ill get it to Skoda at half term

Mine's six years old now and never have this issue.

Haven't had an issue with that type of speed bump either and we have similar cars, engine and body wise. I think you would be right to get the Skoda warranty bunnies to hop on it.

Just my luck... theres no broken coil type noise

unfortunately its a common problem on greenline models, which sit lower than standard models

Not all 1.6 diesels are Greenlines with the lowered suspension though (at least, they aren't all Greenlines in Ireland when the car is a facelift model).

(i.e. Mine is a Elegance 1.6d with GRT - as in "GReenline Technology" as part of the spec. This means I have the Greenline aerodynamic panels etc, start/stop, brake regeneration BUT I have 17 inch wheels on standard height suspension, spare wheel, full trailer hitch preparation etc).

I think Lichfielddrivers Superb is not a Greenline though? If it isn't, he shouldn't be having the bottoming out that he describes...?

Typo

Never had the bottom hit anything at speed, luckily, but we don't have such speed humps either. Maneuvering around former Soviet Union panel buildings (great roads with even greater potholes) and over high kerb stones the bottom of the car has scraped with one of the worst sounds you could possibly hear. Driven dozens of cars and not one of them has had the ability to turn mundane obstacles into bottom scraping horrors like the Greenline Superb.

I love the look of the low stance the car has. It corners well for such a large car and I'm okay with that impacting comfort but a part of me dies every time I hear the terrifying sound of the bottom scraping.

Not a Greenline, never had the issue till a few months ago when I had the fat family from hell in, about 50st and that was just the bloke

TBH mine only bottoms out the (very low) detachable tow hitch because it's been worked hard over the past 7 years and could do with new springs, but because I have absolutely no issues whilst it's (usually) empty and the handling's fine I intend to leave it until it fails an MOT or I can't live with it.

In your case I'd certainly get it checked out under warranty.

Not broken a spring at the cup? It's ride is even side to side?

I shall measure the road-to-inside front wing lip on level ground tomorrow

Mine is twin door 2009 had the problem last week...N/s/r spring broken so had both replaced and the bump stops done today.....All good now

if anyone has a 1.6td estate ill compare tomorrow

its the front that drags

I was about to post the same topic. Yesterday I ripped off another section of plastic undertray on a steep driveway/road. Mine catches on the plastic wedge that is located under the rear of the front doors. It happens when I have more than one adult in the back seat (over speed bumps).

Our car is different to yours (1010 2.0TDI 170 elegance, 90k miles), and has the factory lowered suspension. At the last service I asked them to check the suspension and it came back within spec (the computerised bounce check). I

It would be good if I could just retrofit taller springs, but I have no idea if this is possible or if I need to do all four shocks and springs.

I can measure the ground clearance on ours if it helps you.

Matt

From road surface to highest point under wheel arch lip (through wheel centre cap) 690mm or 27.25 inches in old money

Just measured mine and it's approx the same as yours (Around 685mm with a pretty much full tank of fuel). As i mentioned above i'm not having any issues with going over those style speed humps.

So looking like it's not a ride height issue...

As per WaveyDavey, my estate measures around 685 all around (measured with cold tyres of 225/45 R17 size). 2014 car, 18,000 miles on the suspension.

Measured mine (no passengers, 1/2 tank fuel) and it is 665mm at the rear and 680mm at the front. I'd love another 20mm in the rear ;o0

Your tyre height is about 632.5mm, my (225/40/18) are 637.5mm (+/- variations for tyre make/model)
