Winter Wheels and Petrol

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I've just bought a new Mark III Superb Estate L&K 280BHP. I wondered whether other owners have seen a notable difference to the performance if for example they use Shell V Power instead of the regular fuel?

I was also wondering if you could recommend somewhere online to buy a spare set of alloys so that I can mount some winter tyres?

Thanks in advance

Thank you Gizmo68

I only have a lowly 220 sire, so I humbly beg your pardon for intruding... :tongueout: The 2.0 TSIs definitely benefit from >98 RON fuel, it says so on your fuel flap. You'll produce more power, more low down grunt, and get better economy. If you run it on 95 it'll still work, but you'll lose power, drink (slightly) more fuel and your engine will have to retard the timing to cope. Whether you notice this is down to your driving style and sensitivity. Either Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power are equally good, go with what you prefer. Anything less (eg 'Super' unleaded 97 RON from other garages) is pointless, as the engine only switches maps when you use 98 or above. In this country, that's the aforementioned two 99 RON fuels (I've never seen 98 RON anywhere?). Congrats on your purchase. Enjoy it!

Great, thank you. Just what I needed to know - It was the same deal with my last car. I'm very much looking forward to getting the 280, I nearly bought the S4 Avant and then remembered I'd owned a Superb Elegance about 10 years ago and it was a fabulous vehicle.

My 280 deffo runs sweeter on Tesco 99.

i bought a set of winter alloys and tyres from Wheelbase. Great service and choice

Thanks, I'll go and look at wheelbase. I will also plan my journeys around Shell and Tesco garages. It should be here on Friday.

I bought these from Wheelbase Alloys JitsGorilla.

Nice. What size tyres are you running? Because of where I live I may need a slightly deeper tyre to get me through the icy ruts on my lane

I ran these 225/55/17” on mine without issue, they are about the biggest sidewall you will get on a 280 (the 280 and 220 petrols needs a minimum of 17” wheels, the others cn go down to 16”)

Thanks, I'll look at 55s  then - It was never a problem when I drove an SUV!
