Need a decent alarm...

Featured Replies

I got my Clifford alarm for peace of mind, I wouldnt ever buy a tracker due to the fact if it did get nicked i wouldnt want it back. Before you even touch my car it beeps at you. I also have the turbo timer which is werid leaving your car running while walking away, funny to see peoples face's though when you do.

Id recomemend the clifford 950 to anyone, even though it costs a fortune.

the amount of discount you get from ur insurance company all depends on many factors. Some companies give 5%, some 10% and some don't give you any at all. It also depends on factors such as where you live, car you drive etc.

I have a Civic type R and my broker gives me 10% but my mate has the same car and is insured with the same broker but gets no discount.

I had the 950 installed, but it hasn't been done correctly, so if you're in Milton Keynes and want an alarm fitted don't go to Premier Car Systems in Stacy Bushes as they have had it back twice so far and not corrected the problems I've been having with the prox alert going off continuously with nothing around. It's now going back a third time but with a written how to on the passenger seat as I'm no longer confident they know what they're doing. I spoke to a clifford tech and he went through step by step what should've been done and what they now have to do so they have no reason to get it wrong again. Anyway the alarm was bought to give me peace of mind which hopefully once it's working correctly it will do. I haven't got any of the bolt-ons put on so it's just a standard 950 as I didn't want to complicate things. It's definately noticeable when it goes off so I can say it's a good purchase so far even though the only times its gone off is down to false alerts.

Cheers

it sounds like its a faulty Prox sensor. When did you have it installed? As a couple of months ago there was a big batch of faulty prox sensors going around. We had to send back about 15 to Clifford.

I think I had it fitted on the 20th September and it went back and had a new prox fitted the week after, but no joy, so went back on the week after as they said the light sensors were setting it off and there was a work around this was sorted no more false alarms but still prox chirps. I spoke to a Clifford/Directed tech and they told me that they shouldn't have fitted the prox under the handbrake but in the roof headliner and that the car may already have a motorola prox with the existing alarm which is causing a problem. But the reason its going off is definately down to either of the two problems. The guy on the phone got me to write it all down and said to give them the list to make sure they know what they're doing as I have doubts.

I had that problem Tell them to take out the standard Skoda Alarm Wave sensor Box. Under the interior light. Its not fitted wrong. I had the same problem.

Thanks, is that the same as a prox sensor as the clifford guy said the fabia may have a motorola prox on it which only detects and doesn't alert. Also where is your prox sensor fitted, under the handbrake or under roof liner?

Cheers for your help

Uhm think its in the handbrake.

All i know is thats mine was a cobra/skoda alarm prox sensor which was the problem. This was after moving the sensor, Then a prox sensor, then they changed the main unit box, then i said why dont you ask skoda and now problem Fixed. Does your car open on the Clifford unlock/lock button?? or do you have to use the clifford unlock button then use the normal skoda unlock button??

  • Author

It opens off the clifford unlock. However I have made the mistake of locking with the Skoda fob, opening with the Clifford which caused me not to be able to unlock the car at all unless I used the key, then the alarms go off. I've never had to use both to unlock the car though.

The people who fit mine couldnt find the loop back for the unlock. So thats how i have to unlock mine bit of a pain but inaway more secure. Might go back and ask some more questions. What age is your car etc??

Could have have the name etc of the people who fit yours??

Cheers

Steve

Cheers for that going to go have a word with the guys who fit mine as ive never been 100% happy with it although even if someone got my keys they prob wouldnt be able to pop the locks so i surpose its even more secure.

I had mine sorted (apparently) today. Now I just need to see how it goes over the next few days. They removed the wave sensor box as you suggested and said it was sitting out the back for 3-4 hours and never went off. Only time will tell. However they were a bit miffed as I left a list of how the alarm should've been fitted and what needs to be done. They said that the information I gave should only be given to dealers and not customers and whoever told me will be losing their job. Good luck with that happening I don't even know the person.

Funny that all the information is all on the internet. The guys showed me half of the sites that a proper Tea Leaf would look at.

Just like the blackjax code being **** standard. I wont show it as that is naughty.

All i can say is that they should have been thankfull that they have solved the problem, not be miffed that youve helped them out.

Sorry to bring this back up guys and gals, but I previously thought that the alarm had been sorted, how wrong I was. After going back for a 3rd time and them doing everything that I was told by a Clifford guy, the alarm has been non stop false alerting. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I stand if I was to ask for it to be removed and a full refund given?

Thanks

Why it s False alerting though?? Have they put a new box in etc??

Other wise i dont know where you stand but if somthing is faulty like a TV you take it back and it gets refunded. ALthough iam sure ud have to give them every chance to fix the fault./s

I have no idea why it's false alerting and either do they apparently. This will be the 4th time they will have it back and I think I've given them enough chances to rectify the problem they've just not been able to. They've only fitted a new prox on the 1st trip back, don't think they've tried a new brain yet but I'm sure they'll be willing to try anything for me not to get a refund. I'm going to see them after work today and see what they have to say and will update.

Ok let us know, but mine is at the moment acting fine. But i do know ive had a new brain 2 new prox sensors. Oh this one might help the guys who did mine used the standard Skoda Bonet Switch this kept tripping the alarm so they put (i believe) a clifford one on. So you could also ask them about that.

Cheers for all your help I spoke to them and they said when they connected up the computer to check the alarm triggers they said everything but the prox showed up as causing the alarm to go off. I've agreed to let them try on Friday to sort it out but if it still causes problems it's gonna have to come off I can't afford to keep being without a car. I've spoke to a guy from Clifford/Directed as well and he said it's not the product it's the installation that's causing the problems. We'll have to see after Friday how it goes.

Thanks again
