Turbo Actuator Failure / Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Had my Fabia MKII 1.2 TSI (2012, 16k miles on the clock.) into the garage, as i had a EPC warning light come on and loss of power this morning.

They plugged it into the computer and have said my Turbo Actuator/(Waste actuator?) had failed... Replacement will be £450? :-|

I had a quick spy on google, being reasonably technically minded although not that savvy with cars-per-say, doesn't look like that difficult a part to replace? but i have seen a few references to calibrating it with the computer...?

Basically, is this something i could easily handle myself? or does it require messing about with the computer which isn't something i'd be able to do as i don't have the gizmo's.

Cheers

Mine got broke last week - with same symptom and epc light was on as well

The mechanic said that it is a part sold with whole turbo kit so we cannot find original unused one without buying the whole turbo kit itself. So you can go for aftermarket parts - do not know why they asked for that much money, i paid around 150 gbp here in Poland and 50 gbp for labor

it will also need to be adjusted after the change - i am not sure if you can do it yourself

I thought I was just unlucky but it does not look like, in addition to that I have been using BP 98 Octane after I bought it, for around 3k miles, cannot know what the previous owner was using, guessing 95 octane.

In 3 cases here, cars seem to have similar ages around 5-6.

But having the turbo/turbo actuator valve or whatever failed in 5-6 years, it is not acceptable as the problems with cam chains. I am really so deeply unsatisfied with the fatal and expensive problems

Turbo actuator failed on my car when it was less than 1 year old. In warranty fortunately so whole turbo was replaced FOC.

  • 3 years later...

Just had my actuator replaced which was detected faulty due to warning lights. Car 4 years old but low mileage. Cost - Part £190.60 inc VAT plus about 3 hours labour. Previously had not noticed any difference in performance but car now seems to be running much more smoothly. Mechanic states that current low mileage of around 2000 miles p.a. is probably the reason. Advised cambelt should be changed next year as it is more of a case of age rather than mileage.
