Best option for DAB

Featured Replies

Hey all, Im missing DAB since i switched to my Monte, My old Arosa, basic though it was, had a Blaupunkt woodstock in it i bought about 10 years ago.

So the Monte has a Amundsen currently installed with bluetooth and GPS so id like to preserve these features. My initial thought was to simply swap it out for a version with DAB if i was to do this what else would i need to consider? Will i need to get any recoding done? What about the aerial, I've read that the existing aerial might already be compatible but will that mean i need to run a cable to it? Alternatively I'm thinking of upgrading to a columbus is there anything i need to consider there?

You say you have an Amundsen? I presume you mean you have an Amundsen +, and you don't say what year your car is (not that it particularly matters but there's always a chance). Amundsen + units sometimes have Bluetooth built in, and it's possible yours has.

So, taking that you have an Amundsen + and it has built in Bluetooth, swapping to another Amundsen + which has Bluetooth and DAB is the easiest option. You'll also need to replace the existing antenna and base, and then you'll need to run a DAB wire from the rear of the car to the head unit. There'll be some recoding to do to make sure it all works correctly but that should about do it.

Columbus doesn't have Bluetooth. Not Never. So if you have Bluetooth built into your current Amundsen + then to replace with a Columbus will mean you need to also install a Bluetooth handsfree kit, along with the antenna as well. Starts to get expensive. However, if your Bluetooth is currently a separate module (unlikely I reckon) then the Columbus would be able to use this.

Very interesting, thank you Rusty. The car is 2013, from what your saying the easiest thing will be to swap it to the Amundsen + with Bluetooth and Dab. It will definitely need the cable, I suppose the only way to check if the aerial is already compatible is to pull the headlining down and check the connections but probably not.
