Featured Replies

how much have you spent on your car in the past 6 months? and what do you think will need doing in the next 6 months?

I only got mine 6 months ago so have spent nothing as of yet, but 4 new tyres next week and a cambelt/waterpump in the next few months!

I am hoping it doesn't become a money pit!

In the last six month I have had a water pump failure (which required the cambelt, tensioner etc to be replaced through coolant damage) and a rear wiper motor failure.

Milage around 52,000 miles.

In all fairness when you bought the car unless you have done huge miles since the tyres must have been close to being in need of replacement ! Regarding the cambelt I'd say that you'd be best to ask directly what the actual recommend change period is ( I think it depends on engine and cars age but if you say 4 years or 60k whichever comes first you won't be far out ) In all fairness some expense ought to be budgeted for as very few owners sell a ' perfect ' used car I'd have thought a deciding factor as to when to sell a car is " how much expense can I expect in the near future " obviously if you are buying from a dealer the selling price would include the cost of the buyer asking for work to be done, but the buyer don't ask no dealer is going to offer.........

£184 for a dsg fluid change other than that its been mechanically excellent.

money spent on mods.........i dont add it up :)

due a cambelt and water pump in the coming few months though.

£185 on two new front tyres, Need a DSG service as i am now on 46k miles........

Oil and filter change with new pollen filter .... Parts cost about £20, excluding oil which worked out at about £18 as I'd used a BOGOF offer at £36 for two, labour at my local garage £20....Hunter 4 wheel alignment, 2 new Falken tyres and tyres rotated cost £220... All in under £300.

I'd to buy 2 new tyres in August 2015, just after buying it in July, owing to a slow puncture on the M8 wrecking a tyre they where £100 the pair ... Bottom of passenger side doors to be rubbed down, rust proofed and painted last June £200 and an oil and filter change at about £50 all in .. So totals about £650 in 18 months

Cam belt change £354, brake fluid change £40, perished rear bump stop £186,in September mot and service, not sure which one at 90,000..

DSG oil change and MOT - total about £220 .  Don't expect to spend any more before I change the car in the summer/autumn.

2011 VRS CR170 with 78k on it.

I had the timing belt, tensioners, water pump and aux belt changed along with DSG filter and fluid and oil filter/oil at Skoda for £610 in October, around the same time I replaced the pollen, air and fuel filters myself.

Total cost, about £650, I dont expect it will need anything else spent on it in the next 6 months bar the MOT.
