How do I change W5W parking lights?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

my dad has a Skoda Superb MKII 2010 and I need some help. Can you please tell me how to change the parking lights w5w without pulling on the cables because that is not the right thing to do. What is your best advice for DIY.

Thanks

They can be really hard to pull out but you need to hold the bulb holder very tight and wiggle as you pull hard. Like you say don't pull on the wires alone.

One went out, decided to change both (could only get them in a pack of two anyway). Started with the one that was blown out and only ended up getting my chubby fingers sore. It was stuck so hard that by pulling on the cable it would've definitely damaged the cable. Those bulbs hadn't been touched since the car left the factory. Even with long-nose pliers it took some serious work to avoid damaging the bulb holder while actually getting the job done, but wouldn't have gotten it done without them. Never had this much trouble changing a bulb and I've changed bulbs and lights dozens and dozens of times.

The other bulb had been changed before and came out easily. I was a bit disappointed to find that the bulbs differed but garages usually just change the one that's been blown out and leave the other as is. One had a blue tint, the other didn't. Didn't notice the difference while the lights were on though.

Thanks for the quick reply guys I managed to get it out with a hook screwdriver type tool without damaging anything including my fingers so I changed booth sides to white W5W leds :) I wiggled and puled slightly harder one side with the tool and the other side holding with fingers and it came out easy.

I changed my front right one two weeks ago and yes carefully position long nose pliers and pull quite hard with a wiggle. Make sure you miss the cables though. Goes back in quite easily.

Changing bulbs in the front of our Superb has been a pain the backside for me too. Worse than any car I've owned in 20 years. Come on VAG!!

You should try changing the side lights in a mk1 Fabia vRS with xenons. Quickest I ever did them on both of our cars when we had them was around 30 minutes on the driver side bulb and around 45 minutes for the passenger side bulb.

It involved removal of the ballasts on both sides and also removal of the battery cover for the passenger side one.

They are fairly difficult to just pull directly out, but i managed to turn mine clockwise and anti-clockwise to losen them up. Then when pulling holder out, pull more to one side, then more to the other. Almost like your wiggling it out.

If this was said on any other website, it may sound sleazy.
