SAT Nav RNS315 Maps

Featured Replies

Just updated to V9 Europe West, to ages to load.

I will be needing to use Europe east maps later in the year.

Question

when a SD card is selected via menu as "use Card"

does it use the data on the SD card instead on the data held in memory or in addition to it ?

ie with the Europe East card in the slot and selected, but not overwriting the Europe west map installed,

are both sets of data available  or only the Europe East maps on the SD card and the Europe West maps unavailable.

Not doubt some will find an excuse to flame even on a simple question !

What unit is this for? Don't know what the RNS315 is, Yeti units seem to have names on them.

And I don't understand your final sentence.

From a quick search on Google it looks like the RNS315 is VWs branded version of the Amunsden used in the pre facelift Yeti.

Amundsen is a RNS310

Amundsen+ is a RNS315

Columbus is a RNS510

At least until the MIB head units came out.

Final line should be: "No doubt some will find an excuse to flame even on a simple question !"

In answer to the OP, if there is a use SD rather than install/copy you might be able to use the East maps without installing. I'm not sure as I've not got much experience with the RNS315.

Thanks.

As I understand it the way to up-date the Amundsen+ depends on the age of the unit, and there is a thread in the Yeti Guides section on how it can/should be done. I do know that the unit will only read from the Skoda supplied card.

There is a guide for the newer MIB style Amundsen but I couldn't see anything for the Amundsen+/RNS315.

The Amundsen+/RNS315 will only take map updates from an SD card, the maps are also linked to the serial number of the SD card to prevent piracy. If you install the maps, it will copy the data from the SD to the internal flash and blank the SD card. This means it's a one shot update so you can't reload maps after you've installed them once. Therefore, the OP should be careful as not to overwrite the Western maps when using Eastern data.

If you know what you're doing you can create a usable backup of a genuine SD card, probably not a subject for briskoda though.

You should be able to use maps from CD or SDcard but do not down load it, when you get back just eject it and you are back to normal.

It's in the handbook.

The Amundsen+/RNS315 only uses SD cards.

The Amundsen/RNS310 originally used CD but later map versions are only on SD card, I think the change over was v5 around 2013.

I have just updated my maps this week for the Columbus rns510 using a disc, took about 45mins.it appears you need to have the software up to date before installing the disc otherwise that also has to be updated to the correct version.i provided the supplier with a screenshot of the version I had and was told it was ok so I only needed the disc for the map update as car was coming up to 3yrs old.

Now I have V9 West Europe map installed and V8 East Europe on an SD card

You can not use both maps simultaneously

If you drive outside of the area of the selected maps no roads are shown.

So putting a route in from somewhere to the west of Germany to say somewhere in eastern Europe wont work

Once you select "use SD Card" only the maps on the SD Card are read.

It will however store addresses that are on the map covered by the SD Card

So at least you can enter all the hotel, ect addresses before departure.
