DRLs for CH/LH

Featured Replies

So I'm aware there is a VCDS tweak that will allow the DRLs to be used for Coming home and Leaving Home, instead of the Xenon dipped beams. Does anyone know if it is possible to set this so that it works all the time, rather than just when it's dark? As standard with the dipped beams coming on during daylight, it would be a bit pointless, but if the DRLs are used, it would look cool for them to come on during the day when you unlock it. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks

It's not, there is a tweak which means the CH/LH comes on a bit earlier but in reality it makes almost no difference.

It depends if you use the auto lights? If not the cover up the light sensor and then they will always come on :-)

To ahenners

I don't think it is possible, because it Works over the light sensor in the windscreen. It doesn't switch on dipped beam in daylight eather.

Thanks guys, thought that would be the case since it uses the light sensor, but wondered if there was a parameter that would override the light sensor. I had a BMW with the LED corona rings and I'm sure those used to light up even during the day when you unlocked it. Oh well :)

As English is not my first language I may have misunderstood what you really are asking.

Do you by DRL mean the LED strip just below the the headlights? I though they were called side lights?

In my understanding the abbreviation DRL is Daylight Running Light. I.e. the light that gets lit during bright daylight.

Here's a description of what I have done on my MY14 Octavia.

I have altered the light setting so my fog lights acts as DRLs during bright daylight.

The fog lights also serves the function of CH/LH no matter how bright or dark the ambient light is.

During bright day light it's my fog lights that are lit up as DRLs.

Whenever the light sensor decide the DRLs goes dark and my xenon dipped beam are put to work.

The light sensor does not have any influence on the CH/LH function.
CH/LH is ALWAYS my fog lights.

Sorry if I misunderstood your originally request.

Thanks for your response. Yes by DRL I mean the LED strip below the headlights. The strip is lit at full brightness and active whenever the ignition is on, so here it is known as a DRL or Daytime Running Light. If you activate the sidelights by turning the light switch to the sidelight position, the LED strip dims but is still active. This is what I would refer to as sidelights.

So basically I am wanting to do what you have done, but using the LED strip instead of Fog lights. So the LED strip is still used during daylight as the DRL, but also is lit for CH/LH regardless of whether it is daytime or night time.

I'm no expert and I cannot give any guarantee but depending of the electronics of your car I do believe this just might be doable.

I'm not at home and do not have my private computer with me for the moment but I will give it a try to dig into this topic at first possible opportunity.
