Hi guys, Im going to have my 312mm setup installed up front during the service next week. Now Ive been thinking, if Im going to pay the labour I may as well have some aftermarket performance orientated pads put in instead.

My decision lays between getting the Mintex 1144's for

I had some Ferodo pads for my Focus which had very good bite and fade resistance. I'm not sure what the part no. was. They were only ~30quid for a front or rear set from Halfords, which sounds a lot cheaper.....

Do 'performance' pads need warming up before they're effective?

... or after reading opinions on here regarding the standard 312mm setup I could save £80 further and keep the standard pads. Hmmmmm... :confused:

Brunty 2004 - went there with 1 week old Mintex pads on my Brembo's...

Pads were useless on the road (loads of fade!), and melted(!!) on the 1st track session!! By session 3 they were completely worn out!

Brunty 2005 - Went there with 10,000 mile old Ferodo DS2500 pads, still on Brembo's...

A full day of track action later (running mostly on slicks), and the pads were still on the car about 8,000ish miles later when I sold the car!! No fade from the pads no matter how hard I abused them!! Boiled the fluid tho...

Im never going to take the Octy on track tbh. Maybe I'll use the new standard VW spec pads in the 312mm setup and see how they go. Then I can change them out myself if Im dissapointed.

Fitted them the day after they arrived, and a week later the burnt remains were hitting the bin - never checked the exact compound, but they were that rubbish on the road that I would never touch any Mintex pad again!

Made for Brembo fitment, but couldn't take standard road, yet alone any sport type of driving!! (So, maybe I should have binned them before the track day...)

My votes with Ferrodo, Ive never tried the Mintex but run Ferrodos all the time & they are brilliant, Im running 335 discs & as for wear I got through 2 sets in about 40000 miles & at the end of the second set I needed new discs as well. I dont really mind as the stopping power is brilliant, Ive never had any fade, even on the track. I had a car pull out into the fast lane on an Autobahn when I was flat out & had all tyres howling trying to stop, 150 down to about 70 on initially cold brakes.
