New car prep. This sound ok?

Featured Replies

I haven't decided yet whether I will be letting the dealer wash my new car when it arrives. Different things for and against it. Like mot being able to claim for scratches/swirls etc if you don't spot them because it's dirty.

Either way I will be doing a detail on it not long after picking it up, weather permitting. Does this sound ok?

Use iron x or equivalent to decontaminate. Will this be ok on Pegasus anthracite wheels?

Then bilt hamber medium clay.

Then bilt hamber cleanser fluid

washed with bilt hamber auto foam

2 bucket method with zymol auto wash

finally bilt hamber double speed wax

was going to get it done professionally but I did my last car myself and turned out great.

Your routine is more than adequate Mandy - i hope you enjoy the new car. :)

But the best advice is simply - DO NOT ALLOW THE SUPPLYING DEALER TO WASH YOUR NEW CAR!!!

As above the best advice is for the dealer not to prepare the car in any way.

If it's brand new I'd skip the clay stage as you'll more than likely inflict some clay marring and because there isn't a machine polishing stage after this to remove it you are technically adding defects onto panels which will more than likely be defect free.

I'd personally -

pre rinse

2 bucket wash

rinse

iron x

dry

cleanser fluid

double speed wax

Enjoy the new car.

cheers

Thanks for the replies. I think I will let them do the inside though, guess not much can go wrong there.

I still wouldn't even let them do the inside either, it can be just as bad! especially as they will use cheap nasty greasy products that will leave your interior looking like dripping fat or even more so looking like soul glo :giggle: :D This is if you was letting the supplying dealer do the clean, but if you will be using a proper detailing company then ignore my post.

But it's your vehicle so it's up to you but check this video below from 7:30mins onwards & you will see why its best to even do the interior yourself

Been on to the dealers and advised them not clean the car at all inside or out and just remove the plastic film. They said they would like to do the film to check for any problems. I'm fine with that. Can't wait to crack on now :-)

Do i wash the car again with zymol after the iron x or just jest wash it off? I can apply the wax straight after the cleaning fluid without another rinse?

Just a thorough jet wash rinse off is fine, paying particular attention to panel gaps, front grille, roof gutter channels etc.

Yes absolutely just apply the wax after the cleaning fluid.

cheers
