Boot won't open

Featured Replies

My wife has a '13 plate Fabia mk 2 hatch.  Since Friday the boot won't open and i'm hoping someone may be able to help me diagnose the problem.

No issue with any of the doors or lights - they are all working - the boot simply won't open when you try to open using the remote boot button on the keyfob or manually open from the back of the car.

I can hear a whirring, motor-like noise when i hold the outside handle so sounds like something's happening but the boot doesn't respond / open.

Any ideas whether this is a fuse problem or something more serious?

If it is a fuse, can anyone tell me which fuse i need to buy to replace and which slot it goes in (had a look at the manual and can;t see 'boot' alongside the description of any of the fuses and must admit i know nothing about cars, other than how to buy and drive

Thanks in advance

Had to replace the mechanism on my wifes last fabia estate when it failed.

Bought a second hand one from a breaker off a similar age vehicle over internet. Easy to fit, just have to adjust the door closure when you set the position. I think i paid about £25 delivered.

If you fold the seats and access the boot from inside the car you will find an emergency release catch. Cant remember exactly how to do it, but it was illustrated in the handbook.

As you dont know about cars you wont have the tools to do this so its a garage job i am afraid

Thanks Ken - appreciate the response.  Suspected it might be the mechanism but needed confirmation from someone else who'd had similar
