Water leak from behind dash

Featured Replies

Hello all,

recently after christmas with the temperature being cold the windscreen on my car had been freezing on the inside, only to find out the passenger footwell was completely soaked

I've taken out all of the insulation to let dry in the shed, in the passenger floor under the glove box there was a glued up hole with a chopped wire to what seamed to be weeping a bit of water so I removed it and bunged it all back all and it seemed fine and bone dry for ages

just got in my car this morning and once again, absurdly steamed up, looked at the passenger footwell again and yep it's all soaked but this time the water looked like it has come from above this hole as if from behind the glovebox

I have already taken out the pollen filter which was dirty, but dry so I don't think it's anywhere is that area

are there any known areas behind the dash to leak?

Cheers, sorry for the long write up

Got a sunroof at all?

Have you looked at the plenum under the screen base? If the drains from it get blocked then the water finishes up inside the car eventually.

Ah, lack of detail there. The drains don't just block at the top, they can block down at the base where they pass between the firewall and the arch liner too!

As to the battery cover, is the battery against the firewall on yours? On the ones I've worked on the battery is ahead of the engine block.

+1 you need to check the plenum chamber drains are functioning by introducing some water test it carefully with water as a start. Don't aim water at electrics in particular engine fuse box relay or ECU up behind windscreen motor..

Also look at the plastic panel on the outside underneath windscreen. If it's not clipped in right it always water to run straight off your windscreen into your heater intake and pollen filter.
