My new Yeti

Here are a few pictures of my new Yeti 1.2 drive.

Only done one a hundred or so miles in it so far, but pretty pleased with it all in all and taking it down to Devon this weekend for a proper run.

I have noticed that the gear change is a bit notchy and it has jumped out of gear a couple of times when it's not gone in properly. I'm hoping this is just down to the gearbox bedding in and will get better after a few miles.

The clutch also seems to bite quite high for a new car and combined with the accelerator, which seems to be less sensitive than my previous Octavia, makes it more difficult to pull away smoothly. This is quite different than the 5k demonstrator I drove before purchase. Surely it can't have been ragged enough to wear the clutch in 17 delivery miles!

Anybody else experienced this? Is it adjustable? Should I get the dealer to check out these niggles or am I being too picky!

Liking the new quilted seats and the Amundsen stereo, although as I said elsewhere it doesn't quite have the same quality feel as the Octavia interior. The drive spec seems like a good option, but no external drive badges as seen in the original publicity.

One other question. On opening the bonnet I noticed two rectangular (ish) holes on the top of each wing (see photo below). Any thoughts on what these are for (ie confirming nothing missing)? As with the Octavia, there is no sound deadening under the bonnet, but the little engine is nice and quiet.

Cheers

Jon

Never noticed them before, probably because on my grey car they are not so noticeable.
My guess would be for alignment or lifting during manufacture or for a specialised engine support when changing cam belts etc.

With regards to the gear box, on mine (albeit a diesel and probably a different design), sometimes when going into first or reverse when stationary the gear stick doesn't go fully home and if I don't notice it, it will pop out of gear. Usually when it does it I go into another gear and move the car slightly before going back into first or reverse.

I think that's just a characteristic of manuals though as it happens on other cars I've driven.

I'd get the clutch pedal looked at though as you want to be comfortable.

I believe the under-bonnet pad was/is only on diesels.  There's a thread somewhere here.

Yes, only standard on diesels. Easy simple fit on petrol 1.2 to neaten up under bonnet if you so wish.

The throttle is mapped different on the new 16V 1.2TSi and you do need a bit more pedal travel than the old 8V unit even though the new engine develops torque earlier in the rev range.

We have an Ocatvia 105 and a Yeti 110.

On the quality issue one thing that annoys me on the Yeti is the hard plastic interior door tops. The door tops on the Octavia are soft and I do tend to rest my elbow on them.

My clutch is high just past halfway ish like that from new. Self adjusting.  Mine jumps out of gear well i wouldn't say jumps more not engaged pops out.  Now and again if i don't push fully home some times grinds as it felt like is gone in gear but hasn't let the clutch up grrriinnnd. I always drive with the clutch fully to the floor when changing gear like you have to do before starting
