Fabia 1.4TDI oil leak

Featured Replies

Hello all.

My Fabia which is now at 155k miles has a minor oil leak - initially it

looked like the sump plug but it's actually coming from further up the engine bay. My usual garage has suggested it could be the oil filler seal or something else which I can't remember but it was more expensive, understandably they advised it would be hard

to properly diagnose the source of any leak without cleaning the area first.

I'm soon going to be changing car but I reckon I might as well change the filler seal when I do the next oil change, however could anyone confirm what the correct part number is?

I was going to order this:

10 minutes to clean an engine.

When was the Oil & Filter changed and by who the place that is advising you now?  Who supplied the Oil Filter the place that fitted it?

I do the oil and filter changes every 10k miles with all genuine parts. I asked the garage to check if there was anything obvious for me when it was in for some other work so it wasn't their priority.

Best clean the engine then and see what is what.

Get the engine warm, not hot, spray it with degreaser all over, wait a few minutes then rinse off with a hose NOT a pressure washer.

Thanks guys. I'l have a go in a couple of weeks. I had a look under the bonnet today and it looks like my tandem fuel pump is also leaking as its damp with fuel :(

Dazza - approx 75k I had a fuel leak which was on the short return pipe ( it's only 6" or so,) and it only needs a pinhole for the engine to get covered in fuel. Haven't got a photo, but the pipe is on the right side of the rocker ( looking at engine) connected to the steel from the fuel filter. TDS say "flexible fuel pipe cut to length) , stealers want to change complete fuel system from filter to pump. Might be worth a look with engine running.

Beware of fuel in air at high pressures.

I had some spare time today so before cleaning the whole engine, I removed the plastic cover and cleaned up the area around the oil cap with some degreaser and old rags, I then started the engine and within just 5 minutes I could see a small amount of oil seeping from where the oil cap screws in. I cleaned the engine anyway in case oil was also leaking from elsewhere. I replaced the oil cap as I had picked one up from TPS yesterday since I was there for some other service items. Ran the engine for a little longer after cleaning and fitting the new cap and no obvious leaks were witnessed. I shall be checking closely over the next week though.

For anyone else with this problem, the part number is 06B103485C and cost me £7.00. The new cap came with the seal fitted.

Thanks for the help all, hopefully that'll be the end of that.

Dazza- there is a post on these engines giving out oil via the filer cap . I've ( on 91k )got a small seepage around the cap , but it's so small that I consider it reasonable.
