Bluetooth & mdi integration questions - 1K8 035 730D

Featured Replies

Good evening folks,

I'm installing a BT module to integrate with the Columbus in the FL Octy Scout.  Have a few questions please!

The green plug on the loom obviously goes to back of the head unit, there's already an aux in in the car so assume that's now redundant or can I unpick individual cabled from the multiplug and combine - see below re mdi install...

Also there's 4 'free' cables, a red & back and orange twisted pair - so I'm assuming this is +ve / -ve supply and can hi / lo, where's the best place to splice into the car and whats the approved non scotch block method, strip / wrap / solder / insulate?

I'd like to add a media in option as well and need to check how to modify the cables / looms or add / daisy chain them together?

Thanks in advance, Steve

Firstly that BT module is really dated and not sure how well it would work. If its one of those Chinese replicas off eBay, there are stories of reliability issues. If you have maxidot try and get a 3c8035730 d/e module from eBay - it will give you premium bt, or if no maxidot 7p6035730 j or above which allows control via the headunit.

The wires you have will just splice (use solder) into the existing quadlock wiring. Search RNS510 pinouts for some wiring diagrams. However if it were me, I would get something like:

http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-mdi-combo-wiring-harness-plug-play-sds-a2dp-2-5m,id2634.html

This deals with your separate mdi issue and provides a connection to the bt module without taking your aux-in out of the game. I have a similar setup but i did mine in stages so have two of these multiplug harnesses in behind my headunit - this is much neater.

Cheers Adamal I'll have a look - I've an older Iphone so wasn't too concerned about bang up to date, it was more or less foc by the time I bought a loom etc. so thought I'd take a chance, offered better integration than the po's setup lol. I have a retrofitted maxidot thanks to EddieNL ;-)

OK bit of an update - I went looking for a cable to integrate the system, ended up with another mdi box and a kufatec cable similar to the one from carsystems above - for similar money off ebay.  Wasn't until I went to swap the lead over to my original mdi unit I discovered it had a different socket, same as bt cable - and different part no?  Turns out its a combi bt & mdi module -  one of these http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-combo-module-bluetooth-mdi-5n0035729a,id1732.html :-) Except no 'A' suffix

So I'll try to get it all connected up over easter and sell on the 'new' one and the other Bluetooth unit as well - happy days.

I'll get an order off to carsystems for an extension cable for the iPhone end of it then I can hide it up under the dash out of the way with just the socket visible - ash tray / cubby hole seems to be a popular choice.
