Can I use 5w30 instead of 5w40 oil?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm doing an oil and filter change tomorrow for the first time on my 1.2 Fabia ('04). I have read that it requires 5w40 engine oil and 2.8 litres of it.

I have been given 1.5 litres of 5w30 oil, will this be okay to use? I am planning to buy 2 more litres.

Thanks for any help!

It will be just fine.

Thank you, that is great to hear. I am going to buy some more now.

I am a novice but I have read that 5w30 is longer-life and is used in cars that are not serviced regularly. Is this right?

Not really, thinner oils improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, long service intervals are for vehicles that cover higher annual mileages, not to allow you change your oil less often.
