Not A Good Way To Start The Week

Featured Replies

Went to take the dogs for a walk this morning and got stopped by my neighbour saying her car was broken into. She asked if my car was broken into and i looked round at it and said no it's....*******s, passenger window been smashed.

Phoned a local car window company, £114 for glass/fitting but couldn't come out till Tuesday morning so rang autoglass £350 but will come out today to fit plastic window to sercure it and tomorrow to fit it. Wife said phone up the dealer so said it would cost a fortune. Rang up DM Keith and £157 all in. Can't get glass fitted till Wednesday but taken it down and least it will be more sercure.

So for once cheaper to goto the dealer.

Insurance should cover the replacement of glass . Only have to pay excess (£ 70 approx)

no way would I pay £350 ,that's just a ripoff.

The dealer probably get local fitters in to do the job anyway.

cut out the middle man ,save some money

Didn't want the insurance company knowing. I am with Hastings and autoglass said they don't deal with them so not sure who Hastings deals with regarding windscreens etc. Yeah £350 quote was a bit high :-/.

How is £157 cheaper than£114? And a day later??

Was quoted £350 from autoglass so £157 quoted from the dealer is cheaper :-)

Genuine BMW MINI door glass is less than £50 and it's a fair old lump of glass on the 3-doors.

No wonder car insurance premiums are so high with the ambulance chasers and the glass replacement companies ripping off the insurers.

Dealer said the window was going to £60.

Why would a dealer pay another company to fit a passenger drop glass? A bonded window maybe but not a simple drop glass.

Sorry OTT in a way, but just be aware that not reporting to the Police and your Insurance an attempted theft from your vehicle can bite you in the bum if ever your car is actually nicked and then they discover you never reported a previous incident.

Far fetched but this can and has happened in the past.

You might be in a high risk area and insurance can be high, but then such is life.

Having an Insurance company reject a claim because of not reporting incidents is common, and loss adjusters do check social media and such.

I rang 101 and got a crime number. We wanted the window sorting out asap because of the rain and snow which was due .If we had gone through the insurance  company it might have been a while till it was fixed.
