Unbelievable luck - Voluntary Termination - Cracked Windscreen

Featured Replies

So tomorrow my we pick up my Wife's Mk3 Octavia which took us months to find.

However i can't be quite as excited now after what just happened.

My wife just got rid of her Citigo, we done a VT as it was worth so much less (trade in) than its guaranteed future value and we couldn't wait til the end of this year. I think a number of people have had the same issue with their Citigo depreciating more than expected?

Anyway, the car is or i should say was mint and very well looked after. However after the inspection they me me aware of the crack in the windscreen. There was me thinking must just be a tiny one they are pointing out? So i went to look at on the drive myself and was shocked tbh, the crack was about 5 inches long from edge of screen.

I was even sitting in the car the night before whilst making sure it was completely empty and didn't see the crack in the screen. When i asked my Wife about it she also couldn't believe it? None of us had noticed it and she drives it nearly everyday.

I think that it must of been a small crack in the corner that has decided the give way the morning of the inspection or overnight maybe.

We had pretty much signed most of the paperwork at this point, had already paid what was required to VT and tomorrow we pick the new car up so i wasn't really sure what i could do at this point?

I am so gutted, i would have gone through my insurance and got the screen replaced for a reasonable amount and would never have considered a VT whilst the screen had a crack in it as it is obvious they would charge more that getting it done on your insurance.

I am now concerned about the bill i may get from the finance company, which would be a real shame as the car is otherwise mint. This is just bad luck.

Does anyone know what they may charge?

I phoned VW financial services straight after he left to make them aware that if i had seen the crack in the screen before then i would have repaired it before handing it back. They have noted this in case i need to dispute it.

I still can't believe it tbh, i genuinely believe the crack gave way the morning the car was being taking away!!

Thanks for reading

If you still have the car and it's insured then most insurers will charge about £75 for a replacement screen (and without affecting your no claims discount).

If you haven't still got the car or insurance then I hope you don't end up paying the full price!

Sorry i should have said, the car has gone, he took it seconds after the inspection.

Any idea how much full price is? PCP looked so good for us, the car has been great and then this happened and could change everything!

I would have just traded it in couple of weeks ago for less money.

Cheers

A quick scan of Autoglass, National Windscreens and Google suggests anything from £180 to much, much more!

I hope this doesn't sting you too much.

Google is scaring me a bit! Nothing fancy about the Citigo windscreen so hopefully it is one of the cheaper ones! I'd happily hand over my £75 right now, which is what i would have paid on my insurance if it means no comeback!

Cheers

Don't worry about it too much, it's just one of those curve balls life throws at us sometimes.

I would estimate £150-250, so not the end of the world, just unfortunate.
