Cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi everyone , my 2.0Tdi VRS started to miss so I dropped it down a gear and it eventually cut out. Not one single warning light prior to this happening and no previous concerns but I have only owned it since Saturday. Vehicle cranks over but won't fire. Any ideas on what it might be (hopefully not cam belt) !

When was the belt last changed?

Was it from a dealer or private?

Trader and advert said cam belt recently done. AA patrol said it's definitely mechanical as no stored faults or warning lights. Wondering if it has a separate pump belt?

Tandem fuel pump?

They can fail, that or a totally blocked fuel filter leading to fuel starvation. I doubt it's cold enough to freeze it.

I have to be honest, if they did the cambelt and didn't do the tensioner or got it wrong, that's going to be very bad news.

It was done 12 months ago and it's covered 10,000 miles since according to service history

Have it taken back to the dealers for them to sort out it be under a warranty

Turned out to be blocked DPF as original owner had it remapped and I can only think the DPF mapped out as no EML or DPF lights present at time of failure.
