Towbar mounted motorcycle rack capacity

Featured Replies

Could anyone advise the capacity - maximum weight - of a tow-bar mounted motorcycle rack. The idea is to carry a Suzuki DRZ400 which weighs 145kg on a motorcycle rack mounted to the towbar while touring abroad. We used these racks many years ago to carry motorcross bikes, but these were generally lightweight competition machines, and the vehicle was a Series 1 Land Rover.

I used to carry a single Trial bike on a Motorcycle rack with various vehicles,

but i think with a Yeti and a DRZ 400 you are going to need a Bike Trailer.

Your Tow ball limit is 80kg i believe.

Not just the weight of the bike but also the racks, plus the length of the bike is all against the idea.

Double the limit.

Maximum nose weight, so tow ball capacity, is 80kg, so your bike will be much too heavy. Your only option will be to get a bike trailer.

I carry a trials bike that weighs 65kg and the rack is 14kg. Your DRZ will be way too heavy, much safer on a trailer.
