Android earphones that are like Apple's EarPods with volume control...?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to locate a set of earphones for my Android phone (Google Pixel) that are the same style as Apple's EarPods with an in-line volume control on them...and boy oh boy is it proving tough!! I'm not a fan of the "in-the-ear" ones that go right into your ear - they never fit properly and always fall out of my ears, plus they block out a lot of ambient sound (which is good for certain situations, but I wear them out and about quite a lot and it can be a bit ropy if you can't hear approaching vehicles etc!). There are lots of these "in-the-ear" ones that have a volume control but, whilst there are EarPod-style ones out there, very few (if any, it seems!) have a volume control.

I had a pair of Urbanista San Francisco earphones, which were pretty comfortable although they didn't have a volume control. However, they seem to struggle when it comes to longevity and they have failed after well under a year's usage; reviews on Amazon suggest this is not uncommon as well.

Can anyone suggest anything? I'm not an audiophile so I'm not looking to drop big bucks on anything, but I don't mind paying a few quid to get something that fits the profile.

Something like this?

Might be crap I've no idea but they're not expensive.

I've just ordered a pair of earphones but I prefer the in ear ones becasue opposite to you I want to block out ambient noise.

I'm not an audiophile either but if you use headphones a lot it's worth spending a bit more on them. I've never found a budget pair that were any good.

Contrary to my own advice I've just bought these - https://goo.gl/bnlqzr

But at work I use a set of Bose around ear headphones. I got them 'cheap' for about £65 and worried about dropping that much on a set but tbh they're well worth the money. Mostly for the comfort. If I wasn't in the habit of breaking them I'd happily spend near to £100 on a decent set of in-ear earphones.

Thanks for the links...the first one looks like a possibility, although I've just ordered some Samsung ones that look like they might do the job (although only time will tell).

Not 100% sure the buttons will work with my phone, but we'll see...

I bought these for when out and about in the local country park walking Hadley.  They left ear bud can be switched off for when listening out for cars or cyclists.  The reviews on the JAMs website gives pretty poor reviews, but I have not had any issues with them.  I paid about £30 for mine.

As for ear buds falling out, most people do not use them properly.  The wire is supposed to go over the ear, most people have them dangling down, which combined with their weight, the movement of the wearer and gravity, causes them to fall out.

Go to 1 minute 20 seconds!

In case anyone's wondering, the Samsung headphones I ordered arrived today and they do the job just fine. The inline remote buttons work perfectly on my Pixel (volume up/down, pause/play, track forward/backward) and whilst the sound quality probably wouldn't cause an audiophile to crack open the champagne, it's perfectly adequate for day-to-day usage, gym, etc.

They come with a selection of silicon attachments so you can use whichever suits your ears best - one of the attachments has "blades" on top to keep them in place when you're exercising or moving round a lot and they really seem to do the job.

Do you have a close up of the ear buds and attachments?

These are the bladed attachments:

And these are the spare attachments - basically without blades in three different sizes:

Hope that helps :)
