Chrome Knob?

Featured Replies

No, I'm not talking about some terrible STD, but me thinking about changing my gearstick to a chrome effect one. I've been scanning the JHM Butts catalogue, and I'm none the wiser as to excatly what I need to buy.

I "believe" I need to change the frame of the gearstick as well, perhaps because the chrome effect one has no gaiter on it? - I'm also not sure of the cost, as the only reference to a gearstick the butts catalogue has was a wooden one... wooden?

Anyway - if enough people tell me this is quite a big job, with more needed to be bought than just a new stick, then I'll more than likely just stick with what I've got.

( edit: no pun intended. )

jason couldnt you buy a fab vrs one? it shouldnt be to tricky to do.

couldnt you just get it chromed might make your eyes water though

mode off>

Jason, just follow the proven Stimps method and attack with silver spray paint - then look at the Butts catalogue for a replacement. ;) ;) (Sorry Steve, couldn't resist!!)

Oh, hello? Did Steve do a little bit of D.I.Y in the gears area too then?

But seriously, what would be involved in getting a vRS style gear stick then - I'd feel a little bit of a prat if had the six speed piccie on the top of it, when I only have a five speed box.

just ring a skoda garage ask them if the octy vrs one would fit i presume it would and get a price fitting cant be too difficult

try this jason knob heaven

Big K??? If you're looking in, what would your little establishment (yourself) charge for a little swapover, of, if you think I could swap it over ( yeah, right! I hear you say. :D ) How much is the fitting alone... This may be a little solution to my little c.c enquiry, which was nipped in the bud! :)

DIY it jason it is not that hard and you shouldnt be able to

1. jam the gearbox cables

2. electrocute yourself

3. burn your car

on second thoughts big K quick help!!!!

1. what if I decide to inspect my headlight bulbs?

2. what if I decide to use a dodgily wired angle grinder to chop off the original?

3. what if the angle grinder doesn't work, and I decide to break out the oxycetylene torch? :D

I'll stick with whatever the hammer decides. :D

good choice there jason if you decided to go ahead can i have your old gear knob as i have the horrible old one on the octy and couldnt nick the furbie one when i traded it in :D

Sure - Wanna do a swap for those sill protectors in December then? :D

( although I don't know what a leather effect gearstick is worth? - )

your knob for my protectors what will people start saying ;)

you have a leather knob then jason not the normal one?

  • Author

Well - it feels like leather - I'm gonna have to take a better look - always been quite happy with it TBH, I just fancied something a bit chromey-fied in the car.

It's whatever the comfort TDI comes with as standard...

if it has stitching down the side then leather if so i will have it if big k says it will fit

if not not so sure

cost i think about

Leather gear stick knob is 18 quid + 12 minutes fitting according to Skoda's website.

That's for the Fabia though...

Rob.

stitching... Yeah, I believe it has - But I'm going to have to check before I go home because I'm really not sure.

cheers rob not a bad guess from my behalf

jason, cheers for that mate

12 minutes fitting sounds right up my street - so it will probably take me half an hour then?

When I get any further info about this, from big k and anyone else, I'll let you know

  • 4 years later...

Hi: Sorry I'm not replying directly to your question it's because I can't find out where to ask a question on the site so I have to look for a question closest to the one I'm asking.

I was wanting to know how to replace my current gear **** (a standard one) with a chrome one on the new model Octavia. Also what happens to the leather surround around the **** as it seems to be fixed. Does this get ripped in the process. Also is it only the **** that gets replaced or the whole lever?

 this thread is 4 years old!!! :P
