Offside rear passenger footwell soaking

Featured Replies

Help!

Just been out for a run in my 04-plate Octavia 1.9TDI Ambiente estate, and have noticed the offside rear passenger footwell is swimming in water. I've just spent an hour with a J cloth baling it out, the carpet is squelching like a peat bog!

I've no sunroof, so have discounted sunroof drains.

There are, however, 2 grommets under the rear footwell floor, and the outer one (nearest the sill), is flapping loose. I am wondering if the water has got in here? When I've baled the water out with foot pressure on the cloth, water is coming out around the now loose grommet.

I am wondering if gooping the grommet up with underseal would help, if I can get more of the water out.

I haven't got the facility to get the carpet up or seats out, I'd have to take it to a garage for that, so am hoping that it will dry out over time.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, and is it sort-able fairly cheaply?

Many Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Update

I've just prised the scuttle plate upwards on both sides and have managed to get my hand into both areas around the rain drain holes under the bonnet (yes, I know, it's midnight!). I've cleared some crap, gunge and leaves out, and have poured water in and have watched it drain out of the bottom behind the front wings.

I'm wondering if these had been blocked and water has been diverted under the floor? However, the driver's footwell carpet is bone dry, just the rear one that's wringing wet. Hoping I can get the damned thing dried out now... Or could water be getting in somewhere else? There's no sign of water on the inside of the rear passenger door or under it.

Id say seal up the bungs in floor.

If you can, get a wet&dry vacuum cleaner, for the carpet and underlay. and then scatter a shot of cat litter over it for a few days.

Everytime you drive heater to floor and hot...

Good luck :)

Pollen filter is on passenger side so if the scuttle fills it dumps it in the drivers footwell, if you park on a hill it will happily flow to the rear footwell. Just did mine as the seal under the pollen filter housing had failed. PO bodge yet again!
