Hi guys all they could offer was a refund for the sd card which I purchased. They said sorry for the wrong info I was given at the time I purchased the vehicle regarding the updates for the satnav

I'm going to call trading standards on Monday to see if I can do anything about skoda selling a vehicle with satnav fitted and then charge extra to update them every 6 months. Got nothing to lose by trying

If that's what they said then they should give you a new SD card every time a new update comes out

The map update process for the Amundsen is a scandal.  How anyone can justify £200 for a mass produced SD card of data is beyond me.  I sincerely regret ever abandoning my TomTom for a fully installed

  • Still don't understand how they can sell these vehicles with the satnav systems in and then a couple of yrs down the line they stop giving updates out and then you have to buy them.

The map update process for the Amundsen is a scandal.  How anyone can justify £200 for a mass produced SD card of data is beyond me.  I sincerely regret ever abandoning my TomTom for a fully installed system - total waste of money.

Not only are updates grossly overpriced but they take an unacceptable time to add updates.  A new roundabout close to where I live was in use in 2013 but didn't appear on the 2014 update.  Speed limit changes in place since 2014 still don't appear on the 2016 update.  Oh, and it still refuses to acknowledge the M606 leaving Bradford even though it is on the map - it insists you are "off road" and doesn't use it in any routes.

To lessen the update pain I have bought 2 upgrades over the last 4 yrs on Ebay and paid around £65 for each.  I have Ver 8 installed at the moment and won't update again until version 10.  By searching "RNS315 Map" on Ebay I found the current 2017 map, Version 9, is currently being sold at £50

NB I am not recommending that seller! Just showing as an example of what is being advertised.

I think the confusion in the OP's case may arise from the logo on the packaging and license agreement booklet.  The map updates are produced by a Dutch company "Here Europe BV" and the logo announces "HERE  Maps for Life".  I think this is a bad translation to English and doesn't mean "updates for life" but is in fact a lifestyle statement and should be "Maps for your lifestyle" or "Maps for living"!!!

I also have found a seller on ebay offering 25% off if you send back the sd card on a new version update http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152386286442

To be far they've never done it before only started with the mk3 Octavia on the new systems iirc

I didn't want the satnav in my current factory order but it is standard for all the available Yetis now. My £99 TomTom has map updates for life, gets live and accurate traffic updates during the journey including accurate delay times from a connection to my phone and the ability to easily find a new route around delays. How can a £700 extra be justified which doesn't even do this?

It also fits neatly in the dash top box in my current Yeti, so folds down and is hidden when not in use, yet at a high level for good visibility when needed and the box lid acts as a good sunshade!

I suspect this will end up in my new Yeti and I will continue on using it.

Mine desperately needs updating, so i will get a card from one of these eBay sellers i think.

Is V10 relatively close to being released though? Mine hasn't been updated since 2013.

I was told next update November this yr

Pretty sure V9 came out recently, annoyingly not long after I'd bought a V8 card off eBay!

I have v9,   before you buy off ebay ask seller when next update is out. That's what I did and they normally tell you. Don't know how else you can find out to be sure though

Done mine tonight. All good and straight forward. Top seller on eBay

44 English pounds mate. It's one of the sellers that is linked in this earlier conversation. Based in ashby de la zouch in Leicestershire and when version 10 does come out, just send memory card back and he'll do 25% off that and send it back to you

Ah yes that's the one I found. Glad to hear they work I will be getting my next one from him

I should probably do the same for my 62 plate Octavia. Especially as we're driving to Holland this summer.

Think I'm still on v4.

When you upgrade, does it wipe your saved destinations?

I'm not sure about saved locations but when I did mine it still had recently visited locations on there after update.

I have updated mine twice. Each time the stored destinations remained intact but although recent destinations were still listed, they returned "location not found" (or something like that ) if you tried to use them as destinations

Mine did that until I clicked on united kingdom as the country location

Just a couple of questions on this...

I have Amundsen+ in a 2013 Monte Carlo tech, I assume this is rns 315?

Also when installing can you do it with the key turned (no engine running) or will the battery run flat before it finishes?

Also what happens if the install is interrupted, anyone found out the hard way?

Going on a 2hr run next week so may just install it on the go when I've been on ebay

It will install with just the key turned but engine not running.

If you pull the key key out and then back on it picks up where if left up from but I only left it like that for 10 mins running to the shops.

Just with key turned on in ignition it didn't run my battery flat. It should carry on with install if it gets interrupted

You can do the install with no key inserted.  With the ignition off and the key removed just push the on/off button to start up the Amundsen.  Start the update, lock the car and leave it.  After 20 minutes(?) the unit assumes you have been an idiot and forgotten to switch it off so it shuts down.  I have updated twice like this while the car was parked at work.  Just nipped out every half hour or so and restarted the unit 3 or 4 times.  It just picks up where it left off and carries on to completion without any problems for me.
