Sat nav/ traffic/camera alert options

Featured Replies

Hi all, I was wondering if I could have your thoughts please.

I have just become the proud owner of a Mark 3 Octavia vRS TSI and loving it. My previous car had no such tech so I used a TomTom Go with lifetime map and speed camera updates; I used it for traffic updates via my phone - a setup that was a bit fiddly (as my satnav kept unpairing from my phone overnight) but on the whole worked and allowed me to avoid the worst hold ups - and as a bonus I also got fixed speed camera updates.

My new car has a built in columbus sat nav with radio traffic updates. How reliable is this combo in day to day life? I was thinking of either:-

-Relying on my car's columbus system for sat nav and traffic, purchase a new speed camera detector (which would also alert me to lasers) and pass my TomTom on to a family member OR

-Hardwiring my TomTom into my new car.

What do people think?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks in advance :)

Detectors are of no use, unless you have reactions that can be measured in milliseconds.

Traffic updates are sketchy at best on the in-built satnav, so if that is important to you keep the TomTom.
