Kodiaq - 2 or 3 year lease?

Featured Replies

My current 2 year lease with the Octavia Scout is coming to and end in June 2017.

I need to make an order pretty soon for another lease and look at going for the Kodiaq (SE or Edition).

This is my 2nd ever lease so I would still call myself new to leasing...

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of a 3 year lease over a 2 year lease?

I expect to do around 9000 miles PA

Ideally we would like to take a longer lease (3-4 years) however from my understanding, it would be more costly with service/maintenance costs coming into play?

X pounds per year for 2 years.

Or Y pounds per year for 3 years.

It's an easy decision.

I've been told my Kodiaq will be on "variable service schedule" so will probably only see 2 services in 3 years.

At least it will be a one off cost up front. Job done.

From a pure maths perspective, ok maybe not pure maths, but total cost of the ownership. Not just in leasing costs but also servicing.

So lets for ease say you put 2k in at the start, and £200 per month, £6600 versus £9000 over three years.

Repeat that cycle over a period of 6 years though... £19,800 versus £18,000.

Then of course one needs to factor in the real world lease differences. Some 2 year are cheaper, some 3. There was a huge variation at the start, I guess trying to 'figure' the future values on a brand new model.

I'd always add the total deposit and all the instalments together and then divide it by the number of months to get a true comparison figure, this can be used to compare against PCP and HP too, as long as you take into account the advantages those 2 have over PCH
