Factory gps to aftermarket stereo

Featured Replies

Hi all

recently purchased a KENWOOD DNX516DABS to replace my faulty Columbus. All fitted fine however I want to use my factory gps aerial that's fitted on the superb II. Not the crappy magnetic one. Has anyone else done this? Looks like I need to change the fakra connector but I'm not sure what lead I would need or where the run from the aerial is located.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

can anyone confirm this?

would love to use the inbuilt GPS rather than the sticky one that comes with the system.

To be honest, its a shame that a head unit costing a grand had to use so many adaptors and stuff rather than just connecting directly to the quadlock and aerials the car has in it.

If a £150 amazon special can do it, why cant kenwood?

Should work. If not, you are only out 6 pounds.

As long as the adapters fit, it will work. You could solder the center pin and shielding together and it would still work. Just needs the connectors to be 50 ohm.

As you say, its 6 quid, so bought one to try.

does anyone know of a similar adapter that would fit a factory DAB aerial to the kenwood, so you dont have to use the screen aerial that comes with it?

Thanks for this guys all fitted this morning using the KENWOOD gps aerial, signal is fine may just spend six quid on the adaptor anyhow .

Very happy with the unit !!

How does it look installed? Do the parking sensors and all that show up as well? Does the navi show on the MFD?

Regarding antennas, if you have a factory antenna for a particular function, it will work with an after markets antenna.

An antenna is only tuned to work in a specific band, it doesnt care if it is plugged into a kenwood and a homemade DIY thing. It's just an antenna. So long as the center pin and shield connect, it will work.

In my lab, I sometimes dont feel like search for a bluetooth antenna to test out some things, so I just stick a paperclip in the female SMA hole... it works fine. There is nothing magical about radio waves. Even a ****ty antenna not matched for the band will still more or less work.
