What are these like?

Saw a ch@ved up one on way home last night on A417 - filled to overflowing with young stereotypes up for some reckless driving, needless to say I refused....

How quick are they?

Errm, Quick in a fragile sort of way, if you know what I mean?

Yes, they are pretty quick. In a Fiatish sort of way. :)

Assuming it wasnt fecked, they are very quick cars. 137 bhp in a light body, I wouldnt be taking one on if I were you....

My old mate had one and as mentioned they are pretty quick. Trouble is though, as far as safety is concerned, i'd sooner be pushed down a hill in a shopping trolley.... The brakes were very poor and it really DID feel like a tin can.

They suffer with waterlogged ECU's too. :thumbdwn:

there as quick as a remapped octy slightly quciker infact ... deffiently will have licked to 60... they can be tuned to about 180-190 bhp so if you come up against a tuned one you done for...

Reasinably quick, nothing outstanding though. I doubt you'll ever see one with more than 160bhp that is running!

My mate had one and when it went in for a whooshy dump valve the garage offered to up the boost for him. 30psi later it was eating Imprezas and Evos for breakfast.

And it managed to last a whole 3 days

My cousin's son had one. Fast, but it turned out to be a complete wreck, but just before he got rid of it, he managed to understeer it into a garden wall....

I'm amazed that there are any left.

What do the GTs have as a powerplant? I saw a Fiat with a turbo sounding engine at the cruise last night, and it certainly shifted. I always assumed the turbo ones were engine transplant / turbo kits, not a factory engine.

I guess they rely on a very light chassis for performance. I wouldn't want to crash in one. :)

About the same weight as a Saxo, maybe slightly heavier. So if driving one of those doesnt bother you, neither should a Punto really.

They didnt really handle though... in fact not many puntos did really - the best was allegedly the mk1 1.2 16v Sporting.

Without searching arnt the GT's 1.3 turbos or something??

1400 Turbo from the Uno Turbo.

This one stank of burning engine...!

He tore passed me at about 100+ in a restricted 40... Nob, obviously up for it as all the oiks in the back were turning around like excited monkeys...

Glad I didnt pursue due to 2 reasons:

1. I would have been as reckless as him

2. I would have been conclusively beaten it seems!

Must be similar powerplant then to the Starlet turbos. They're nippy little things. :D

My mate has one of those, and bloody hell does it shift, runs out of puff at about 100...

I absolutely love the starlet (his has been fettled slightly) and am still sorley tempted by them tbh, awesome fun

Yeh and just like the Punto, they have pistons fabricated from chocolate

Nope... the starlet turbo is a slightly modern engine..

the GT/ uno turbo one is a very very old 8v design.. and melt quite easily (almost as easily as the old R5 turbos did)

i said they can and i have seen more then a few that run well at these figures with RR graph as proof....in fear of starting the not extact science debate of Rolling Roads again...

I was only comparing it in terms of being a small displacement, and a turbo to get more welly out of it. :D

I've had two.

First one was so unreliable I took it back to Fiat after three months and 3K miles, and got my money back less
