Noisy Fuel Pump?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

Can the fuel pump get noisy on the 1.2 TSI? If so what do they normally sound like?

Its one of the many odd noises i get out of this engine, all intermittent of course...

Noticed it was doing it again when i pulled up to work today, like a cyclic swooshing / metallic scrapping noise at idle every 1/2 sec.

It always sounds louder in the cabin with the door closed, i have in the past popped the bonnet up and gone hunting but it never sounds that loud when i get round the front with all the chattering these engines make so couldn't pin it down to an area.

Usually once I've turned it off and restart later noise has gone. Its very intermittent, probably last time i heard it was a few weeks back.

I've heard a noise very much like it in someone's video on youtube but having asked i never got a reply so none the wiser.

Cheers

Best thing you could do would be have a Mechanic or someone that knows these cars listen to yours and help you with the issues you are having.

?

When you unlock and open the drivers door after it has been sitting a good while are you able to hear the fuel pump before even putting the key in the Ignition?

There is lots happening under the bonnet when you start the car from cold, then once running, then charging the battery, water and oil pump and alternator.

Then different noises when stopping, or when starting a warm engine,

best have someone give you piece of mind or advise what Servicing & Maintenance the car needs.

I've tried this with the main dealer, last time they had it i printed out a whole A4 listing all these noises and left on the dash board as didn't trust the front desk to log the problems correctly if at all.

They had it for a couple of days, no fault found.

Other times when I've been out or on the way home I've heard this noise so drive by the dealers as local to home and see if anyone can have a listen for me.

First time i made the mistake of turning the engine off and when i got the guy out there and started up again it didn't do it. It was really loud as well that day.

2nd time i did the same, left the engine running but they were so busy in there i couldn't get anyone to look.

I think what i would have to do is let them drive it for the week or so and hope they hear what I'm hearing.

Seems odd that the points I've raised noise wise with this engine around nobody has come back and said its familiar / heard before / its normal.

Even the main dealer which services them.

Its not stopped running yet and keeps going so I'm just living with it.

I only posted this thread separate from the others I've posted as felt it was a different question really.

Cheers

You see i said a "Mechanic", you went to a Technician, there might be a problem right off.
