clutch slipping

Featured Replies

and its only if ive given it a bit of right foot through the gears.

any ideas.

cheers

It might help if you post some more details of your car, ie year, engine and mileage, plus how long you have had the chip fitted.

sorry its took so long, been away.

its a 02 tdi 90 bhp with 29k miles. chip has been fitted about seven months.

gonna post this because it might be useful: when at jabba last week, mike was saying one potential cure for a slipping clutch was to remove bung at top of clutch, and whilst engine running pour in a bit of hot water with washing up liquid...cleans crap of clutch faceplate, fixes slipping. not being particularly mechanically minded, i have no idea if it works or not...

I have a dragon box on my PD130 and at times, in 6th at around 2000rpm, the revs will jump by 500 and then settle back down again, only happens occasionally.

When I was racing slot cars (revved-up Scalextric for those of you youngsters who are unfamiliar), the way to get the rear tyres to grip was to squirt them with lighter fluid, then burn them out (no, they didn't catch fire, just cleaned themselves up spinning on the grid).

So, remove bung at top of clutch, pour in entire can of lighter fluid, call Fire Brigade (might as well get ahead of the game), rev up to (say) 4000 rpm and dump the clutch.

Let us know how you get on. Let us know if you survive....

not sure about trying that. a bit scared me thinks. but next door is a piromaniac, maybe ill ask his opinion!!!

i think i'll take to my local garage and tell them about the clutch cleaning jobbo and let them do it.

cheers guys.

A good way to clean the clutch is a "full-bore" start. Pile on the revs and dump the clutch. :D Don't do it too often otherwise you'll need a new clutch ;)
