Thinking of going for a Fabia....

Featured Replies

Hi, i want to change my current car which is an Astra 1.6 Petrol, and was looking to buy a Diesel, because i do alot of miles.

I realy need it for the fuel economy (and power/torque too ofcourse :D )

My current car is an SXi model so it has the usual sports extras, which i want in the new car i buy.

I want to go for a VW, or Skoda. I have been looking at the new Polo Sport 1.4 TDI 80PS 5dr model, and also the Skoda vRS 1.9TDI PD 130bhp.

The RRP of the Polo Sport is

well the second one i brought second hand from the dealer in bedford, tis red, cost me £9000 and is three years old, they hold their value well i know that for sure. i`m 25 park offroad and have no claims or convictions or anything like that and my insurance is £700 and some pennies. the first one i brought and still own was brand spanking new, black with sunroof and no other optional extras, cost me twelve and half. that came with the shortlived satisfaction of the smell of new car and supershiny bits everywhere i looked :) but actually i also had a years gap insurance with that as well which luckily i never used but was there if needed.i part exed a standard fabia against the red vrs i drive now and managed to get it on finance at 3.9% which i think is not bad.

apart from that that is alli can say as i didnt haggle or agrue the price or anything like that, i did try to get the dealers vrs jacket of his back but he was having none of it, dont blame him really.

agree though the astra needs to go, preferaly along with every other vauxhall on the road straight to carhell, god i hate them, nothing personal mate :)

try www.autofinders.ltd.uk for a quote. they quoted me fantastically.

excellent service and decent deals. the people therehelp you get the best from the deal.

The VRS is sold for £10995. so saves u hell of a lot. plus with the saving u could get extras. if you go for leather you could have car same price as you would have got std from dealer.

There's a hell of a difference between a Polo 1.4 TDI and the vRS.

The vRS has better equipment levels and masses of extra power for a start. You pay an awful lot more for a shiny VW roundel on your bonnet, but if that's what you really want then that's what you will buy. Otherwise if you want TDI and you want to save money have a look at the Ibiza 1.4 TDI, getting a bit of a facelift soon so you will get a good deal on a current spec one or you can wait for a slightly nicer looking one.....?

Only car with soul out of those three though is the vRS...

Have you test driven a vRS yet ..... if not then go for one

that will make your mind up for you

The polo is a fine car too, I'd give both a test drive. I would expect the Fabia vRS to be worth considering for sure, but also try the PD100, it's pretty fast too in reality but it admittedly misses out on the body kit.

The fuel economy of the vRS is probably going to be a little worse than the polo you mention though, but it is a lot of fun :)

Test drive will sort you though

I have just converted from polo tdi's to a vRS and wouldn't go back, ever!

More for you money all ways round:thumbup:

I took an internet price quote to my dealer and they got within £150 of it about which was about £1,100 off list price, a tank of diesel and vRS mats so I happily bought my vRS off them. IMO, the vRS is a great little car and the Polo is a good one. Having owned a Passat I would never ever give my business to a VW dealer. I find the sales staff greedy and arrogant and their service departments woefully inept. My Skoda dealer is a breath of fresh air - helpful, friendly, servicing isn't expensive and they fix things first time.

A couple of other alternatives you may not have considered.....

Have you considered the 1.4TDI (75ps?) in the Fabia Comfort? Not a sporty trim level, but the car is significantly lighter (and less nose heavy than the vRS) so handling is better balanced and the engine is stupidly economical - the one I drove was reading 70mpg after a caning  Can be easily tweaked with a tuning box, etc, etc.

I had the 1.9 TDI (100ps) in Elegance trim which had nice cheap insurance (gp 6?), a nice amount of power and torque for every day driving and lots of toys whilst still returning 50-60mpg at fill up. Also plenty of tuning accessories for if you want to pep it up a bit :D

Chris

Polo and Fabia virtually same car.VW adds a premium of £2k to its cars for something or other.

Both nice,vRS is lots of fun.Lots and lots of fun.Plenty of well looked after second hand ones on here.Save you a few pounds over a new one.

If you want to enjoy driving go for the Fabia VRS!

Dont have a vRS but ican vote for the solidness of the fabia very very good

I took an internet price quote to my dealer and they got within

If you want a 1.4tdi 80bhp, skoda are now doing it in ambiente guise (the better one) with group 3 insurance.

Personally though if you're doing long distances i'd go for the 1.9tdi 100bhp - a powerfully engine which allows you to overtake when you want - 56mpg and group 7 insurance.

If yuo can afford the insurance the one to get is the VRS, and it will still do 53mpg. (However this figure ranges widely according to weight of the drivers foot)

Having run a vRS for near 18 months I can only say you have to drive it. Possibly the most fun + economy mix in any car at the price. A friend recently bought an Ibiza FR, (he wouldn't have a Fabia vRS because they are "common"). Just about the same car and has some nice details. Probably even fewer about than vRS's. Fabia with the 130bhp oil-burner is a cracker and never fails to get admiring glances and comments. As people have already said; paying VW another £2k for the badge is wasteful and their dealers do seem to be an arrogant set of whatsits. Recently bought some 505.01 oil from my local Audi dealer. He spotted the vRS and said it was a shame Audi didn't have something similar. Praise indeed.
