Xperia XZ connecting to Amundsen issues

Recommended Posts

I recently bought an Xperia XZ to replace the aging Xperia Z3, it's a nice phone and I can't fault it - until I came to connect it to the mk3 vRS with the Amundsen head unit.

I can pair the phone to the bluetooth and make / receive calls on it - which is great, the phone book is fine and works with no issues.

The problem arises from playing music through the head unit - It will play, pause and I can control the volume, but I can't see any track listings, or the present track being played, nor can I skip to the next or previous tracks (the buttons on the touch screen are greyed out).

This is infuriating me, as a premium phone like that should have no issues.

I've read a couple of articles to try and fix this, turning wifi off, running the phone in safe mode, deleting the network (incl bluetooth) connections and reestablishing it - but all seem to do nothing.

Does anyone know of any reason this would happen, I've never had issues with any other handset (Xperia Z3, Z3 compact, Alcatel, Samsungs) all seem fine.

Any ideas on how I can sort this out - as some tracks on my phone are not that suitable for when the children are in the car :)

Also interested in a work around for this as my Sony Z5 (and my other half's Z5c) has exactly the same issue with my MIB1 Amundsen stereo. If I connect my work Samsung Note 1 it all works fine, can skip tracks and track info is displayed. Also if connect my Z5 to my Renault Trafic works vans stereo bluetooth streaming works perfectly, track info is displayed and can skip tracks.

The problem appears to be a compatibility issue between the newer phones and the older MIB1 stereo. Checking on the Skoda compatibility page it only shows up to the Z3 as being compatible on the list of Sony phones. The later MIB2 Amundsen shows up to the latest Sony handsets.

Is anyone successfully using a latest generation Android phone on a MIB1 Amundsen head unit that allows bluetooth track skipping and shows the track details?

I also recently went from Z3 compact to X compact (Z3 touchscreen packed up!). But I never had any kind of folder display using either phone. But I use the SD card for music and only use the Bluetooth connection to play podcasts. This is with the MIB1 Bolero.

Bit of an update.  Just connected my Dad's Samsung S6 Edge which is running Android 7.0 and it works flawlessly.  That rules out the MIB1 Amundsen not being compatible with the latest version of Android or some phones not on the compatible list.

I called Xperia tech support today (03705237237), they informed me that there is a "bug" in the 7.0 Android OS.  When I stated that an S6 Edge running Nougat had connected with no issues, he quickly changed this to "technical issues which the Sony developers were working out".

So it looks like Sony have cocked up on this one - as the XZ was released last year you would think they would have a fix in place for this by now.

I just hope they come up with a solution quickly - I don't mind using the SD card. but I like to listen to music on the way to work and then continue where I left off when I get there :)

UPDATE -

Just tried connecting the Xperia XZ to the USB port and setting it to MDI - I have never done this before on the vRS.  It came up with a second AUX option in the sources (Same Icon and everything) but no music could be heard when selecting either. Is this normal?

I might have to buy a phone cradle and plug it in via 3.5mm Jack - At least Old School can't fail me where technology has let me down..

Just received an update of 41.2.A.2.199 and it has not made a blind bit of difference.

Come on Sony... get a grip
