Shuddering under heavy braking - VRS

Featured Replies

Having drums all round on my Minis, Iirc AM4 on the front and VG95 on the rears was the hot tip in the magazines. As I recall my brakes never got hot enough to work properly at low speeds. A visit to a scrap yard was necessary to get replacement drums when I induced warping somehow. Memory has failed.

I really could have done with 12 inch wheels to clear the big discs, but they weren't homologated until the year after. Had to make do with spacers and big arch extensions - the eagle-eyed may just be able to see them on the avatar. Back in the day, DS11s were the mutts n***s without being too hard for normal road use, so long as you didn't allow them to "scrub off" with too much gentle use.

To resurrect this thread I am experiencing high speed judder on my brakes, frustratingly they were brand new discs and pads all round only fitted late last year? They were decent branded stuff as well, Pagid discs and ceramic front pads.

Would I have grounds to complain to the supplier if it's warped discs, they genuinely have had no hard use to cause it?

Also if it is just deposits due to not bedding in, how can this be resolved back to normal?

I give mine a good hard brake now and then to clear the surface and it seems to help.

Did you clean off the hubs properly and grease the sliding pins on the calipers when you changed the rotors/pads? Bedding in pads really isn't all that relevant these days unless you're running high temperature racing pads. If the pad material has transferred unevenly you should be able to see if on the disc surface. It could well be manufacturer defect if they were installed properly
