AC Issues

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I'm new here and I'm trying to find out some information before I go to and expensive mechanic.

I bought the car recently and it was winter so I didn't need it for cooling and couldn't test it properly when I bought it.

The issue is the following:

No matter how low I set the temp and how high the vent is going (recirculating or not) there is no freezing air coming out just normal outside air.

What I have tried:

- previus owner said he changed the compresor before selling and gave me the old one also (not original either).

- fill up with Freon, the car had only about 100g of Freon left and I topped it up at 525 as written under the hood at a specialized service. - Still the same

- somebody suggested that the pressure valve that should start up the compressor is not working. So I checked if the value coming from the valve (and read on the car CPU with OBD) is the same as the value in the pipe measured with a manometer. Both values were 6 Bar.

The guy told me that when you start cooling the pressure should rise to more than 6 bar and the the valve would fully start the compressor.

Does anyone have any suggestions as I would not like to change the expensive compressor and find out it's from something simple.

Thank you in advance

Also as a side note does anyone have the Superb Kombi Mk2 (B6) Service manual as a pdf or something. Thank you.

Mine stopped cooling too.  Local aircon shop (we have lots of them in Australia because it gets hot here) degassed the system, removed the compressor, fitted a new compressor control valve, reassembled and regassed.  $504AUD in total.  The valve itself was $235 of that.  He reckons 80% of jobs on these cars where some shops would replace the whole compressor only need the valve.

Ty,

Yes, that is why we measured if the control valve measures the right pressure or not. And to our surprise the control valve sends the right signal to the CPU.

Have you checked the condenser fan?  Failure is a common problem on VAG cars.  However, if the fan was gone, you wouldn't get cold air when stationary or at low speed, but would get above 100 kph when the condenser is being cooled by airflow through the radiator.
