Back into dealer after 13 days

Featured Replies

I've got a loan car sitting at my door as the dealer tries to de-bug a few little things.

Hope to get it back tomorrow.

Not best pleased.

What's happened if you don't mind?

Back at the dealers is not good but sometimes these things happen. My concern would be what training have the dealers spanner guys had on the Kodiaq. Yes the engines/gearboxes etc. are the same for the rest of the "family". It is still a different car.

One of the reasons I don't want mine until June after getting burnt with one of the very first O3's off of the production line.

Basic configuration that had not been checked at the factory or by the dealer at PDI.

The snag list revolved around the extras in the Climate Control system.

1. The temperature control SYNC button wrongly operated from the LH knob as it would in a LHD vehicle (as shown in manual)
2. The heated steering wheel controller was absent from screen (surprisingly the hot wheel is automatically included with the DSG paddles)
3. The rear seat Tri-Zone climate control display and buttons were absent from the rear seat (although I had rear temp control on the big screen)

On d-day I had noticed item 1, but even if I'd noticed items 2 and 3 I'd still have taken the car away for later remediation. I was very disappointed to be told this would not be a quick "while you wait" fix as they didn't know what the problem was or how to fix it or how long it would take to fix.

Turned out to be a a pretty quick fix though it took 3 shots with the config tool. The technician called me to explain how things had been fixed and the technician's report that was read out to me upon collection.

Also on d-day I found that the GPS map was lacking the detail of a minor road when I turned off the main A9. No road detail visible. The GPS only knew where it was. Blue sky navigation to destination. I suspected the lack of an SD card to be the problem, but it seems the Kodiaq does not get a GPS SD card like the Octavia. A GPS software refresh seems to have updated the road detail ok.

In addition, I asked if the LHS rear fog lamp could be activated as I believe it is silly to have only 1 rear fog lamp on anything other than a bike. Answer - no chance - "no wiring for LH for lamp". Daft!

As an aside, the tailgate Virtual Pedal continues to be extremely un-user-friendly. I've had 3 generations disco dancing behind the car and rarely will it open at the first attempt. A very hit and miss design. I've rolled under the car to hunt the sensor, but no joy. It seems no one can point to "X marks the spot" so that it will operate first time, every time just bit like every other button in the world. But this is just a 1st world problem so we will get on with life.

My wife's Captur also has one rear fog lamp.

Do you have Columbus because that navi updates through connected phone?

I expect it will be the same as the Superb... no LEDs inside the n/s ‘fog’ light cluster either, so you would need a continental light cluster and wiring then a bit of coding done.

I hope your dealer has logged all of this properly so that a report makes its way back to the factory otherwise they will continue to come out of the factory like that ......

One fog light is better than two...

1 fog light enables drivers to see brake lights from a distance...

Yes I was told it can be updated via Skoda Connect, an SD card or a dealer connection. The least of my concerns.

I'll keep using my stick on Garmin device when I want to have much more functionality - like route planning on PC, downloading trip data and much more data on screen (MPH is number one) - and I swap from vehicle to vehicle.

I guess so. I had hoped that all cars would be built the same and simply configured as needed. Like the AC SYNC control.

But I guess they save 50p by not fitting the LH fog lamp unit.

It annoys me that so many cars come with just 1 fog lamp.

My Superb had 2 and in a previous V70 I bridged the gap on the LH circuit board to give me the 2nd fog lamp for free.

1 is silly. I want 2.

Just purchase a rear light unit from a Left Hand Drive Kodiaq and you will be able to get 2 rear fog lights working.

Anyone in Scotland or anyplace when behind you in Fog are hardly going to worry that you only have on 1 rear fog light like the majority of other vehicles that they are seeing with rear sidelights and a single rear fog, they have more to worry about like they probably have only one as well.

(hours or days after there is no longer fog loads of cars will still have 1 or 2 rear fog lights on.....)

I dont understand why so many cars keep their rear fogs on when the lighting control has to be deliberately turned and pulled to turn them on, and automatically turns them off when the lights are turned off.

I used to think two rear fogs were better, but since then have converted to one is safer. Having fogs both sides reduces the chance of the following car noticing you have applied the brakes.

On older cars there are many that seem to be clueless to that when putting on Front Fogs when there is no Fog they are also putting on the rear fog / fogs.

Then with near cars 'Auto lights' might be all some use, then manually they put on a rear fog and somehow are unaware that they are in traffic with cars plainly aware they are a car and visibility is greater than 10 yards let alone 100 yards (or even meters.)

Also unable to spot that on their dash board that there is a Fogs on warning light.
