Monte Carlo Black Edition towing?

Featured Replies

Hi there

I recently bought a 2014 Monte Carlo Black Edition Estate 1.2 and we have now decided to look at buying a small, lightweight caravan. According to the manual I have downloaded a 1.2 Estate has a towing capacity of 1200kg, but I have checked the plate on the B pillar and the V5 and both say 0. I have now read that towing isn't permitted (I thought that was just the vrs). Does anybody have a conclusive answer, although I suspect I already have it.

Welcome to the forum.

It looks very much like Skoda never gave 'Official weights for towing', so nobody can supply and fit a towbar for you to tow with and you can not tow.

(A grey area does not stop you from fitting a tow bar to fit a bike rack to, but towing with it would be illegal.)

There is one version of the New Skoda Kodiaq that has not been given 'Towing Weights' by Skoda and buyers are just finding out that if they buy one they will not be able to fit a tow bar to tow with.

I think the same thing applies to the (Older) Greenline... No official details. Might not actually make it illegal though but worth finding out. Might be ok to fit a tower and keep to the lowest weight of the entire range.

The PF Jones website lists a tow at and ancillaries for the estate so you could buy one and fit it yourself.

I'm not sure if it would fit the black edition - is the rear panel different to a big standard estate?

Do we know why we can't tow with this car besides the lack of official towing weights?

The EU Approved Towbars will fit, you can fit one and use for a Recovery Point or fitting a bike rack to.

If there are no 'Official towing weights'  towing will be illegal on the public highway and you invalidate your insurance.

(3rd party cover for others would still apply.)

Many thanks for the all the replies - it is a great car but I have now decided to sell it and buy a Double van which will be able to tow and also for transporting my bikes etc.
