Renault Laguna 3.0 V6 - What do you know?

Featured Replies

Further to the Vauxhall and Ford threads - what do you know about 3.0 V6 Renault Lagunas?

They seem a real bargain considering the equipment level, I think they look really good and the Megane I had in Italy was very refined (and that was a diesel). However, the Megane's seats gave me back ache on the drive from Milan down to Rome.

Well, I think that says it all really !

I looked at a Laguna one but was put off by the number of negative reviews all over the internet and the fact that some 60% of current owners would not recommend them or buy another one

I drove the 2.2dCI diesel in top trim level and it was nice and comfy, and well kitted out, but did rattle a bit and didn't feel as mechanically sound (with 60k miles on) as I'd expect from a 3 year old car....

The keyless entry and push-button start were very cool though :D

Chris

The newest shape laguna was for a time statistically guaranteed to suffer a mechanical defect in it's first 3 years :thumbdwn:

I havem't been following all your threads Goochie. Are you after a cheap family motor with all whistles and bells ?

Sub £10k reliable estate at least as big as the current Octavia Elegance Estate. Dont really want another Octavia, not bothered about MPG though I dont want to pay over £600 for insurance (currently £437, mods declared), dont want an impreza.

Less than 50k miles

The Laguna was a result of an AutoTrader all makes search for "V6 estate"

Old Lagunas were rubbish, mechanically and electrically.

The newer ones with all the gadgets have, unsurprisingly, electrical issues... A mate flogged his problem-ridden 2.2dci and bought a Zetec-S TDCi Mondeo, he really likes it. Funnily enough, my mate's Renault 21 had electrical issues too, and it was quite new at the time.

Why do some companies eg. Alfa and Renault, consistently produce cars with similar 'issues'?

Renault Laguna - No,no,no,no!:(

Bad move - build quality and reliability problems.

I would go for a Ford V6.

As for the Volvo V70R - what an awesome car. Guy at work has got one that is BBR chipped. I think they are more inspiring than the latest V70 but a bit dated.

I used to love Volvos :o until I bought a 1997 850 2.5T AWD estate a few years ago. It was from a main dealer and cost me alot of money. When it was working it was great but it was the worst car I've ever owned. I had the car for a year and it spent at least 4 months of that time back at the dealer. Luckily nearly everything was covered under warranty (over

Lagunas are carp, we got rid of the 5 we bought for the cab fleet after just 6 months, nothing but trouble, bits kept falling off, engines kept breaking. and that stupid f*cking card thing instead of a key? whats the point? you cant put it on a keyring and its to big to go in your pockets comfortably. at least having the gimmicky 'start' button means you require less effort when the think conks out for the millionth time though!!

I work for Reanult as a Technician and they're honestly not worth the hassle. Don't get me wrong I think they're excellent fun to drive, come with good extras etc but the minute they go out of warrenty is time to worry! Anytime after 70 000 miles you would expect to find both bottom ball joints totally screwed, discs are almost always shagged at that sort of mileage (mainly cos ppl don't tend to keep and eye on them) and the pre-modded intercoolers are guarenteed to get a hole in them at some point! I think probably the most scary thing we've seen though has to be coil springs snapping! Theres always a possibility they could puncture the tyre and thats really not fun at 80 mph! The 3.0 V6 is quite a good engine, we havn't seen many problems with them and they're fun to drive, not overly fast though and obvioulsy you get the issues that come with the car chassis wise.

Id stay well clear if i was you a mate of mine had the 3ltr and i had the 2.5 mondeo he was spending £200 a month min just to keep it on the road, not including fuel.

Id go for a merc E class if you need the room second hand AMG's are quite cheep at the mo

i had a previous generation megane (1.6 16v sport) for nearly 3 years prior to my furby never had any problems with it but it was a bit soft in the handling dept
