New Android device for exclusive use of OBDeleven

Featured Replies

I'd like to make a few VCDS type changes to my Superb and rather than rely on others and the high initial outlay of a Ross-Tech cable I was looking at the OBDEleven dongle and app but we're exclusively an Apple/IOS household.

So...has anyone in the same position bought an Android phone or tablet just so they can use OBDEleven?  I was looking at a few SIM free phones on Amazon that I can use on the driveway using the WiFi connection to my home broadband; any problems with doing this?

Any advice appreciated.

I've ordered OBDeleven Pro and also a new Alcatel Pixi 4 Android 6.0 phone which is sim free/unlocked,  so I should be able to use it over WiFi and BT without any issues.

Total spend is just under £80 so not too bad.  Will update how I get on.

It would be interesting to know if your new Alcatel Pixi 4 is also compatible with Android Auto.

FWIW I'm planning to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 (or cheaper S2) 10" to interact with OBDeleven.

Reason: you can use in the car with Smartgate and at home over WiFi

I've read the Samsung S3/S3 is the best in class tablet for display, speed battery life etc.

Here's a link to techradar review in April 2017 http://www.techradar.com/reviews/samsung-galaxy-tab-s3

The S2 is older and therefore cheaper.

I hope this was useful,

rob
